Overview:
Sometimes people just can’t help the way they’re born. Some have looks that are stuck in an angry glare, winning them fear from their compatriots despite their best intentions. Some have bodies that secretly grow excited under a powerful gaze. Put them together and hijinks ensure! Sick of the constant affect Ryuuichi has on her, Sara Lafarge coerces him into the council to build up her resistance, but can she really withstand such a powerfully arousing glare even further up close? Or will the council room gain all new uses in Sweet Switch ~When Our Eyes Meet, My Body Melts~?

For me the censorship is kind of a deal breaker
Alot of completed Japanese games that would probably be decent but no mods to fix the scrambled crap

how do great games like Evenicle get past japanese censors?

Well for one Evenicle was uncesnored by Mangagamer, you can tell because they had to redraw the penises for almost every scene. Usually when the japanese draw genitalia they draw it as simple as possible since little detail can be shown when it's censored. Every uncensored japanese game was done by fans or translators and redrawn as well because of this. Blame America for the censorship law, if we weren't worried about brothels Japan wouldn't be so crazy about how it handles censorship.

Not really true. The Japanese law that prompted the censoring of genitals is their decency law which has been around since WW1 and has never changed. On top of that the law itself doesn't actually say specifically genitals or anything else has to be censored. It's the same vague "Obscene things aren't allowed" type law you will find in any country. It leaves it open to interpretation so the government can change what is defined as "obscene" as times and values change. The censorship in Japanese porn is actual self-censored by the industry and over-seen by privately run groups who are the ones deciding what does and doesn't require censoring. They do it specifically to avoid the government actually intervening and regulating it with specific laws. The US certainly didn't help matters when they more or less forced a lot of western culture and values into Japan but they aren't actually responsible originally or even really now for the way it is.

This. Laws are different everywhere. England has The Sun newspaper and topless Page 3 girls. In Germany the laws are different again; their version of Age of Conan has full nudity and no blood, while the NA version has toplessness and all the blood spray you can handle.

And certainly can't forget Illusion's game that was never supposed to be sold outside Japan because they knew it was legally acceptable only in Japan, and somehow non-japanese sites ended up reviewing it and reviling the content, to Illusion's utterly flabbergasted confusion...

the chances of them keeping a game only in japan is about as high as the chance that there is gonna be a suit case with a billion dollars on your doorstep in the morning

Do these games usually get uncensored or is it always like this for most games and time can't help?

It depends on the situation. With fan-translations it's almost always censored. Some localization companies like MangaGamer do usually try to release things uncensored because they know that sells better in the West. It depends tho on if the publisher still has and is willing to provide the original assets or if they are willing to invest in redrawing some of the artwork so not always. Once a game is officially released in it's 18+ version in the West tho the chances of an uncensored version later are next to nothing since if they were going to do it they would have done it from the start.

This isn't quite how it happened. While there WAS US political and military influence in post-WWII Japan, there was little to no forced cultural influence.

Most of the cultural influence we see was from internal pressures, and/or a slow self-change caused by the adoption of ideals. Or the IDEAS of ideals. Or even Stereotypes. It's really quite a rabbit hole when you start looking at How A looked at B, and arrived at C.

For an example of this "odd adoption", look at things like American "Chinese" food. It has little in common with ACTUAL Chinese food. But when someone wants exotic or different, they are more likely to make a small change that is still mostly familiar to them.

The 60s-90s in Japan saw widespread adoption of MANY different aspects of culture from all over the world. But just like everywhere else, they interpreted these changes through their own lens.

You are SOOOOOO wrong on this one...
Many games are uncensored that way, yet quite a number of official western releases use original CG's before censoring.

There was a game uploaded here (maybe a few weeks ago?) that was, in fact, japanese and censored. BUT since it was a unity game, the assets were relatively easy to unpack and also revealed something mildly interesting: The base CGs were completely uncensored, the game just used a censor overlay to, well, censor them.

Looked it up before replying, it's

This looks unexpectedly interesting. Might have to add this to my backlog of things I really should be looking at.
