A long time ago (like back in the Sharks Lagoon days) I did a poll asking people whether they liked audio in their erotic games, disliked it, or didn't care one way or the other. The results were split pretty evenly among the 3. I chose to interpret that as "2/3 of my user base wouldn't care if I stopped doing audio," which was convenient because I hated making audio.

I'm sure tastes have changed in the interim, but I'm happy when I hear people like you say you turn the sound off.

First thing I do with a game is "mute all".
1. I hate wearing headphones.
2. I listen to music for background noise so I can concentrate, so I generally tune it all out.
3. I think porn sounds are usually goofy and not sexy. Especially on a still image.

I would say tastes haven't changed at all heh. The amount of devs/AVN's that actually go the trouble of hand picking audio to fit...is slim...it's less than 5% imo. Those , are worth listening to. The vast majority, it's generic crap and yeah...turn it off immediately. You can usually tell from the music playing in the start screen what it's going to be like.

Any other audio I despise on a personal level (sound effects and 'porn noises' are even worse, they add nothing), and it annoys me even more if they do not assign it all the correct channels in ren'py. So I would say the vast majoirty don't care...because 95% of the time, it's going to be utter trash.

Yeah, when I said above that I hated doing audio, I was specifically referring to the sex scenes. Good background music can definitely improve the experience. But we're a small dev team, and the time spent finding appropriate royalty free music is time we could have spent making the story better. Though, that's somewhat of a misdirect. Reality is, I'm into words and code, and Mortze's into imagery. If there's anyone who is into finding or creating background music, and they want to work for free, DM me.

All that said, I think that the sound effect audio that Mortze did for SWM works.

I know some people put a ton of effort into their games audio and sound tracks but I tend to have my music on when i'm playing a VN.

These days I usually leave a game unmuted for the first 20 minutes or so and if it starts to annoy me I'll mute it and turn on spotify.

Depends on the game...
In games like BaDIK, SG, LoF etc, the music is VERY important. Those that disagree doesn't get the very idea of the games, really.... Like watching a film without ANY music in them... Tends to be boring films. Even DOCUMENTAIRES put music in them, for a reason...
So if the MOOD is important, and it sets the stage for the STORY, for non-deaf people the music is muy importante. Stupid ass voiceacting and bad (they all are) sound effects and ridiculous c-rated porn moans? Not so much...

Some prankster just made a pointless stupid incest mod years ago. That's it.

Of course it is crashing, that patch is way outdated (three years old!)
Also that thing is imo nonsense, does not fit to the story. Better play a game that is actually meant to have such content.

Hiya, hun. Yeah I just find some of the sounds used in adult games more weird than anything else.

I don't like "porn" audio to begin with. Hearing people try so hard to fake orgasms tend to make me giggle. It sounds funny. I just prefer to put my music on as background noise while reading VN's, it's relaxing.

It's not an incest game. Someone decided to make a mod for the first part but it's absolutely nothing to do with the devs.

The point wasn't asking about the mod, it was asking the devs about it. The mod has nothing to do with them, it's not intended as an incest game so there is nothing they can or will do to help.

Nothing wrong with incest, but patching incest into a game that had nothing to do with incest is as deeply sad as taking an incest game and turning it into landlady and renter and roommate. Fakecest is as bad as stepcest, and in this case was literally a joke. So just go play some real incest games. Of course nobody can stop you from desperately trying to get your fakecest, but then you'll have to fix the patch yourself.

I used to be one of those people who didn't think sound was very important in games. I didn't mind when games were silent. In fact, most of the time, I thought the audio quality was so poor that it would be better without any sound, so I would play with the volume turned down. However, the sound quality in games has now improved significantly. I've got used to playing games with the sound turned up. Silence negatively affects the atmosphere. To compensate for this, both the script and the graphics need to be very good.
As you said, good background music can definitely improve the experience, and for me today, a good background music is a must and usually enough.

I'm guessing it would be another place where some people would want realism and others would want porn logic and they'd constantly bicker about it on game threads.
