About all this hodgepodge of mindbreak/control, brainwash and memory alteration, there's a possibility albeit small that Asuna was indeed cheating during the SAO event with someone maybe even Inoda, sounds far-fetched but what do we know so far.
We're assuming the new events as memory manipulation or inception right, but in the movie the "memory/Idea" is associate with others real memories/ideas to create context, the mind fill the gaps with real memories right.

So the problem is as far we know those real memories of Asuna cheating they never happened is just a fantasy of her mind and because of that the "Inception" wouldnt work, fake+fake and she would never believe.

All of the main characters in the story are survivors from SAO, most of them if not all according to the plot developed traumas and mental issues, ones more others less.

The idea is what if the affair indeed happened in the past, with Inoda or someone else and now her mind is associating these old events with the new ones because the inception her suppressed memories are coming back and we konw for a fact that she does have suppressed memories.

Remember the Hospital arc when we found Asuna's medical history, there over the SAO incident she was diagnosed with PTSD by sexual abuse and because of that she became a nymphomaniac very susceptible to sexual pleasure, and her dad blocked those memories to help her and if he did this to her who can garantee that he hadn't done the same with the other person as well, this way they would not come into contact ever again if they don't remember preventing further mental/reputation damaged for her.
If you think there's a bunch of weird things that happen with no plausible explanation, out of the blue Inoda's fixation over Asuna, his hate/envy of Kirito, how easy Asuna fell into his manipulations.

We assume Sugou was behind that, but few things don't match as we know the "affair/abuse" if happened was before Sugou showing up, Sugou didnt expend that much time with Asuna to do all those things and Fujino himself said that Sugou never fucked Asuna, even Kirito didn't had that much "action" with her either, but the only real thing we know is that the abuse/nympho thing it's real and she does have more sexual exeprience than she remember and she indeed was someone else cum dump during that time, the question is who is the bull.

Sugou once mentioned three types of memory alteration methods:

1. When the subject consents and voluntarily cooperates with the memory modification — this is the fastest, usually completed within a day. Asuna and Inoda happened to fit this model.

2. Inducing a mental breakdown in the subject first, and then performing memory modification — like smashing a vase into large pieces, then reshaping it with some new components. This method takes around a week. Sugou had used this method on Asuna in the past; I suspect it’s like what we saw in the anime — verbal abuse and mild sexual harassment. But Sugou said just as he was about to succeed in breaking Asuna down, her father discovered everything and interrupted the process.

3. Modifying the memory of someone who’s already been hypnotized. Strictly speaking, this isn’t an active choice but rather a passive situation where Sugou was forced to deal with a mess left behind. Taking the second method as a reference, the vase is also shattered, but into overly small pieces, and with many wrong fragments mixed in — so it takes even more time to repair and modify.

That’s why I believe Fujino is firmly committed to the things he once said. If he said Sugou never had sex with Asuna, then it didn’t happen. And if he also said Inoda won’t have sex with Suguha in the future, we can trust that too.

Reality turned out to be even messier than the script.
After Asuna actually slept with Inoda for the first time, she regretted it as well.
But since this is an NTR game after all, they ended up continuing their relationship just two weeks later.

iirc there was also a convo between kirito, asuna and sinon at the start of the arc where carroll's poem is directly mentioned and asuna jokes that kirito might have drink some tea with alice xD
