True enough, his previous games are rather straightforward with their corruption. Unlike this one who digressed for some reason.

Tbh I'm kind of the opinion that this game should have come to its conclusion already or at least be close to it by now. The story with Asuna has pretty much reached a point where it doesn't seem like there's much more where to go, she is practically completely corrupted and fallen for Inoda. The only thing left is to finish her corruption in the real world, but in FOG she already is basically a whore addicted to Inoda's cock. The problem is that while we got a lot of scenes for Asuna in FOG, now the updates are only giving something like 1 real world scene for Asuna every 2 or 3 updates (And since in FOG she's already become a complete whore addicted to Inoda's dick, most of the scenes there kind of feel the same to me, despite having good CG. Like I said, in FOG she's kind of already reached the maximum level of corruption, there's not much more to progress there, because of that currently I feel more invested in the real world scenes for Asuna, since there's still corruption and progression to be made there).
Also, I will confess that I haven't been a big fan of how the NTR's feeling of the game has been kind of lossing itself in the last few updates and turning more into a swinging kind of thing.

The new game feature has an option to pick a date to start from - so if you were on 7/5(for example), you could make a new fresh save on 7/2 or 7/6(I forget the exact start dates). As kinglionheart said, you're not losing any stats. If you need anxiety to unlock stuff, snag the mod from the first page to pump the numbers up.

King is right, it won't change anything. It's a game with a linear plot, the only non-linear parts of the plot are the choices Kirito makes with the other girls.
