I'm guessing to either increase the game's replay value for you by playing the game again to see stuff you missed.
Or it was hinted/stated in the last update that the lady cop would investigate the closed path and inform you if anything happens. Maybe if it's the second it will get added into the game somehow.

Yeah it seems pretty much a tactic to prolong the game and try to increase the replay factor.
