I feel like only the beggining is close to lab rats, I'm really working on having a totally different route, specially a more in depth story.I like the game a lot, even if it's a clone of Lab Rat, but that's why I like it. I don't find consistent in a setting so oppressive from the dictatorial country, that there are smartphones and internet (especially to see porn online). In this sense I see it unrealistic. Anyway, congratulations for the graphic choice of the characters, the yellow folders and the typewriter type characters, that make everything perfect.
EDIT:
Speaking of realism, in this sense I would see the protagonist tried to hack "state systems" (like internet or social networks, finding proxy server, codes ... etc) in order to do his personal research (work and leisure), with the possibility of increasing risk factors (as happens when buying materials or producing serum) and interacting with other present and future characters. This would make it, in my opinion, a more intriguing development of history.
About the cell phones, etc. it really depends, I live in a country with one of the biggest numbers of journalists killed, and 5 of our cities are in the top most dangerous cities in the world too, etc. a "democracy" which is in truth a dictatorship by a ruling party, and we still have porn and internet. China is also an example of a country with government sanctioned internet, but it may not be well reflected in the game, and this is a mood that I'm working on to make it feel more tangible. Hopefully new events that I'm adding will help!
The idea of hacking or using a deep-web or else is a good idea and I look forward to add some flavor.
Also this is likely to be more noticable in either 0.4 and forward, but the idea is that the city is controlled by "Institutions" that are semi-decentralized (The government is a complex bureucracy, and they avoid giving too much control to a single organ to stop power grabs. Also this division helps as a check and balance format where they fight too much among themselves instead of organizing coup's)
The idea here is that they start with 0 corruption, and that means they are 100% efficient to say. While they stay uncorrupted, the game will be extra punishing to you: Events will happen more often, and their effects harsher, you'll have then to corrupt and diminish their influence in order to keep advancing without having to worry about being caught. I hope its going to be fun, not extra hard to play but neither just "click for sex" thing
