No. Even worse. The dev is milking. He or she has, from what I've seen, quite a few Patreon's. But puts out about 3 minutes of game play every 6 months to a year. It seems like a good game idea. With a lot of promise. But very slow on the updates and very short on them as well.
THX for the answer

This game is clearly destined to die. It's really a shame because the game looks great and the premise is also great.
But when you release one scene in six months you're a scammer in my books.
And who is he scamming exactly? Not his Patreon supporters because he no longer has any. Not you because you were playing for free.

Developer got sick, damn near died, tried to come back and finish their project, got nothing but endless toxicity from whiny entitled leeches so it's no wonder they bailed again.

It's a shame that the ecosystem is like this, but to be fair, bad faith devs have fostered this environment. It must suck to be a dev and have any kind of problem, because the audience is ready to attack based on past trauma.

When devs can lie and milk people at the same time there is ABSOLUTELY no reason for ANYONE to trust ANY dev until they have proven themselves with quality and timely updates. There are people who will lie about anything, being sick, almost dying etc.

I am not saying this dev is doing that but I for one do not trust words, I trust actions and to me the actions of this dev taking forever to do anything then making excuses legit or not then working again and then quitting again. There are toxic people everywhere.

I work in customer service... do you think I don't know how bad people can be? Yet I still DO MY F***ing job. Now devs that make these games a lot of them sit back and watch the money roll in to their patreon or whatever accounts while they do the bare minimum. If I did that while getting paid at my job whatever my excuse was I would get fired.

I don't whine and complain AT MY JOB about how bad and toxic people are. Sadly these days its snowflakes that rule the world. You better not say a word least you offend some wussy, entitled, crybaby.

hit the fucking nail in the head!

Some of the devs are snowflakes if not straight up multitasking or lazy.

example: "4 years in tehran" one gay scene and the dev STRAIGHT UP abandons the game and makes a new one. WTF happened?

example 2: "heart problems" The dev obviously updates the game once a year if not two years and luckily the character models are great but not as great as "summer heat" so the problem persists in wondering why the updates have stopped.

Example 3: "a mothers love" this game doesnt have animations but slideshow images for pseudo movement in the updates yet its taking more time despite the dev updating once a year if not 2 years. Im wondering if the dev is working on other projects.

Im already working on my own porn comics using AI models for animations already. Give the technological advancements in Ai training in about 2 - 3 years and the advancements will creep into visual novels using renpy.

I agree, and it's a shame that bad apples make the whole ecosystem more toxic than it needs to be. I don't think there's a fix either, because there will likely always be a model for "amazing tech demo" that then fizzles out. It's like the VN equivalent to a pump and dump crypto scam. And some devs, like the one for WVM, start strong but then get so lost in their own process that they render their game virtually impossible to finish or keep at a certain level of quality and it just loses more and more steam.

I think consumers have to be ready to jump off the ship quickly and be way more cautious about what they jump onto in the first place. But that really sucks for a dev that has a vision and talent but is trying to make the money to justify it. Just unfortunate all the way around.

I feel like a good indicator of future success is looking at devs like the one making X-Change Life - the dev posts a lot, is constantly making new material, but also has a fanbase of mod makers and interactive fans that create an atmosphere of momentum. If the dev you want to support is just a dude with a PC telling you about his plans, I don't think he's doomed to fail, but he's definitely not benefiting from the accountability ecosystem of positive fans trying to grow his idea. That being said, this decline can happen to any game - look at how Summertime Saga has ground to practically a total halt over the last couple years.

I could not agree with you more. Consumers have to be paying attention and as you said jump off the ship quickly. So many devs have Patreons who just autopay for months with nothing happening. I think what could work is a dev puts out a demo, people like said demo and donate a one time donation to support the continuation. The dev continues to work on the project and puts out an update after a couple months, people play it and either like the direction and quality of the project or don't. Those that do donate another one time to keep it going. That way the dev gets rewarded for their work if it is quality and doesn't just get money from idiots who don't pay attention.

It really is a shame that the industry is as toxic as it is. Far too many devs have screwed over far too many people to make a quick buck and yeah the constant "Life is happening so I haven't had time to whatever or I had to redo parts of the early game because I don't like how it ended up". Its honestly all just excuses, if a dev really wanted to make progress on their project they would.

I do think their are a lot of consumers that just take without giving back. I used to have several projects I supported but I and many others got screwed by the devs. At least one dev was honest and said they were using the money they got from the game to work on another game I didn't like. Still a scum thing to do. I supported a SPECIFIC project NOT the dev.

Anyways ranting aside, as long as morons keep supporting devs that put out tiny/crappy updates every 6+ months things will not get better.

Indeed. That's why although I sometimes make one time donations, there is only one developer (ILS Productions) whom I do a Patreon subscription.

I've read too many Patreon / SS IRL stories, wallpapers, model demos, character discussions, polls... basically everything except the actual product update. Even if it's a low tier $2 subscription, that's still $24 p.a. of my hard earned money. It just ain't worth it to get a 15 - 30 minute update every 6 - 9 months.

Nowadays I simply play a game and if I like what I see, make once-off donation/purchase on an amount that I think reflects what is produced so far. At least I'm not giving money with any expectations of the future and am simply buying what I have played and liked so far.
