Okay, I'll admit I'm one of a niche few lore obsessives for ToA, so I'm going to be brutally honest:
My biggest criticism of Story Mode right now is how much it creates QUESTIONS but so far has answered so few of them.
This has been a huge gripe, because Story Mode exclusively has specific lore details that we still have no actual answers to. Only vague 'possible' inferences or unreliable narrator/misleading source info. So many characters, either intentionally or unintentionally, give us immense doubt that they're in any way going to tell us a truth if it might go against their agenda. Even Winnie will Game Over us, if given the chance to make us her seat cushion forever, so it gets frustrating when new story mode content doesn't answer long running questions that she herself also raises. I've talked in the past about the laundry list of open leads currently, some are joking I'll admit but, it's a growing worry that I'm just going to add even more onto that with the next Story Mode content update.
Just to be clear: I understand Show don't Tell, it's important to create writing that doesn't only reveal information via exposition and outright confirming things to be true.
I like Dark Souls but even then, come on, there's a point where it's getting a bit too much. Hell, did Trudy's Story Mode Inn encounter even reveal what he learned from Meri like he said he was going to Nadir for? I wouldn't know, because it's buried in a sex scene I won't read. That's another thing, the amount of sex scenes/game overs that have the lore. There's so much detail that I'm just not going to read because it's MxM or Fetish content I'm not interested in, same with if there was any lore revealed in the ENTIRELY MxM Brothel Bottom Prostitute stuff. I once suggested over 4 years ago Futa+ changing the brothel customer genders/pronouns, but that never got a response. And I know this won't get an official response or even seen, because of bullshit that happened over 4 years ago too. Fuck me, it genuinely sucks, I hate that I had to fixate on this specific game of all things.
Once again, because I feel this sounds sour, I love the story mode's writing. I'm simply getting more & more hassled by that, without the STILL POLLED FETISH/CONTENT TOGGLE FEATURE being implemented (despite the Patreon About Description even saying it was to be an implemented feature YEARS ago) I'm not ever sure I'll truly know all the lore when it's tied to reading scenes/game overs of us getting railed by characters I dislike or have no sexual attraction to. Would be really good if this game had something that compiled the lore/details you've found out if you complete scenes, such as a Main Menu section or have it be added as a subsection to the Progress one. That way I can CTRL skip through these Game Overs + Sex Scenes and still find out about the world. An encyclopaedia that gets more info the more you play, that'd be great.
