This is usually preceded by "my wife left me because she no longer respects me" stories.
That ending would be preferable to, "my wife doesn't respect me and sticks around to remind me each chance she gets. And I'm too gutless and indecisive to do anything about it" or, worse yet, "I love it when my wife reminds me how she doesn't respect me" which seems to be the way these games end... ...for some, I guess that's okay; no thank you for me, though.
The worst ending (in real life) is none of those imo, it's just the indifference and going on because "having extra income and something to come back to is easier than going solo" or "Since there's kids, we have to stick together for their sake" (mind you this happens on both sides men and women).
I would imagine that is how most real life situations of this nature end. Women seek protection and being provided for with other additional "wants" which are honestly of lesser value all things considered. When you hand your woman over to another, it sends signals of weakness (removing the protection seeking), which leaves (providing), but this is often not enough for some (note numerous very rich men who practice this losing their wives) as the aspect or protection is very strong and this creates conflict, even if it is "subconscious" which is why it often leads to lack of respect over time.
