I mean it was the other way around, Bridget was canonically a crossdresser, in fact his whole character story was joining the tournament to prove he deserved to be a guy even though he was forced to crossdress by his parents, but Twitter started harassing the devs so Bridget was retconned into being trans. It's why the Japanese side of the fandom was so mad because they were literally changing characters to appeal to the western audience. What I don't get is why they didn't just make a new character that was trans instead of changing a pre-existing character.
Edit: Also I don't care Bridget is trans now, the creators said so, end of discussion, but don't create this false narrative. At least tell it accurately.

So it's character development that Bridget forgot about looking for his brother, as his ending in one of the previous GGs suggested? Also he has been bounty hunting so he can prove himself to be famous and bring good fortune despite the superstitious belief his village believes in. Also forget about himself not caring that he's crossdressing AND being annoyed at being confused for a girl? Then comes back in Strive, feeling conflicted about his gender identity and with no hints of ever finding his brother or not? That's character development?
Let's not forget about Bridget is gonna announce coming out being trans to the isolationist village that's is his family's home. The same village that murders twins of the same gender due to some superstition. Which the games didn't put any effort to show if the villagers have changed their stance over time. That's character development?
