Those choices aren't meant to be placeholders. They also aren't meaningless choices, even though you can only continue with a single option. The main point of those choices is to show Sam's level of corruption/depravity. They also kind of serve as a teaser of what is to come later in the story. Every time we get one of those choices, there ends up being a scene later on where the option Sam refused actually happens.

Those choices give us a better feel for Sam's growing depravity and acceptance.

I agree - it takes the consent part out of it and gives us the forced part via the bus - I had posted a update ago that I normally didn't like kinetic novels - and this one was really good but this has changed 180 degrees - I was happy the way Sam was finding herself and I was hopeful she would be with her dad for the first time maybe even the brother but it looks like this is going off the rails and the sweet Sam will end up a Porcupine - (If she had as many sticking out of her as she had in her she would look like a porcupine) and that is sad
