It's a game with multiple choice. Misleadingly it could have had players thinking there were different paths to take, rather than it just being a time wasting mechanic. If it wanted to do anything it could have just done a quick cutscene to show you getting killed and then takes you back to the intro to make the only choice the game wants you to make.

Well no because there is actual progress in the game if you actually choose to torture yourself and rat out Hector in the beginning of the game. So how is it misleading when that path actually exists. One just less frustrating than the other.

The RNG of it killing you randomly is the problem. People hate it or in your case you may like it. No more to be said.
