The Cabin - Episode 9 | Dev-Note


Hey all,

I wanted to quickly provide a brief update, nothing significant, just a small detail to let you know what's happening.
I'll start with the writing. Crab has been finished with episode 9 for quite some time and has now got a decent chunk of episode 10 done ( hopefully he can keep his dick out of his hand long enough to do some more ). But all jokes aside, he's done a fab job so far.

As for the art, I've made some good strides over the last month, and I have 3 more scenes left to do. One of them is somewhat large, and I expect it to be rather complicated; the other two, however, don't seem as large or as complicated.

I don't like giving out release dates, but I hope to have it all finished sometime at the back end of this month; if not, then it'll be within the first 2 weeks of September. That being said, the new content to the game won't be the only change, and hopefully we'll be seeing a number of new features too, provided I can get one of them working well. I haven't tested it yet, but I fear by implementing it, you might need to start a new game... then again, for those who care about the feature, you'd be starting a new game anyway, so I'm not sure it matters o.0

I also plan on doing updates every month, no matter what has been done. I've added a reminder in my calendar, as I always forget shit like this, and I also plan on taking some extra time away too to do some 4Ks, but only where things are getting too complicated.

On another note, pretty much all my income sources have taken a hit. I don't know if it's because of everything going on with NSFW games recently or what, but my income has tanked, as has that of a number of other developers I know. Due to that fact, I may need to start work on a new mini game. I know it's not ideal, but other than going out and looking for a job, there isn't much else I can do. Since Adverse Effects is my most well-received game, I was thinking about a sequel to that, set just as you're moving into the new house and your "roommate" returns home from university, so you and your "landlady" need to keep your newly found love a secret. I haven't finalised it yet, but that's the idea I'm thinking of going with, plus a few other side characters too, including a reveal of the much loved... Mrs. Norris ( no, she isn't a cat... maybe... o.0 ). And AE2 isn't going to be some super quick rushed thing either; I'll likely only get a few renders a month done so it doesn't impact The Cabin, so don't expect AE2 until probably between December and February.

I also have plans for a 3rd Emi game ( we don't include the Christmas special around here ), but if I were to work on Emi 3, don't expect a release until the back end of 2026; I have no desire to keep pumping out mini-games again. In all honesty, AE2 would be to keep me going so I can keep working on The Cabin. I refuse to be a dev that lets a game die ( I'm just one that pumps out a shit tonne of mini games and takes 12 months to release a single episode ). Although, thanks to Crab, I think episode releases are now down to around 3 months, which is better than it was before :p

I'm sorry too, my super power is to fuck ramble like shit o.0 I'll stop and leave you be now :p

It would be better if the game was a harem and the player could choose the girls that they didn't want. Such a shame. I love all three of them. The story is still a bit twisted. The graphics are okay, the animation is good, and the sound is awesome. It makes it a harem Expectations for the future

Hey all,

I wanted to jump on real quick and give a little update for episode 8 and also do a couple of introductions as well and update you on some changes to the plans and other little things going forward.
  • The Introductions:
I'd like to introduce you to a couple of people. The first being the lovely lady in the render, Roxy. The poll has finished, and you guys have spoken; with a whopping 39%, the name has been set. She'll be introduced in episode 8 and will play quite a vital role.

Second, I'd like to introduce you to Kingcrab. If you're in the Discord group, I'm sure you've seen him around, and the name won't be new to you, but he's been a patron for quite a while and has been somewhat of an unofficial proofreader for some time also. But we got to talking over the last couple of weeks about the lack of progress in the game, and after some back and forth, we were able to identify some issues that were causing the delays, the big one being my own laziness... but we won't talk about that :p Another is simply my lack of motivation to write; this is why I write mini games most of the time, to write something fresh to put me back in the mood for writing the cabin. But after talking for some time, we got onto the discussion of the possibility of him coming on as a writer. At this point, I had about half of the script done, maybe a little less, but he started off with the Roxy introduction scene, and after a couple of days, he came back with a finished story, and although his initial script was good, it needed to be tweaked a bit due to the formal nature he was writing at times. He tweaked it and got it just right. Then he worked on another scene ( 2nd to last ) and that one had far fewer issues. I think 95% of the issues were mostly code issues that I would be doing anyway, like incorrect code names for characters, etc. Then, he worked on the final scene, and let me tell you, it was perfect. Not a single issue, and the story was spot on. I feel like I rambled a little there; long story short, Kingcrab is joining the team as a writer. In theory, this should boost productivity and, in turn, make the release windows shorter. Not to mention, he's already made a start on episode 9 so while I'm chugging away at episode 8, he's going to do episode 9 and so on.
  • The Faults:
My laziness aside, I did discover a major fault that was slowing down production. I've had the issue before and fixed it, but I hadn't had it in so long that I didn't notice it had cropped back up again until it was too late. There is a Daz asset called Octane Render, which is supposed to be a super awesome render engine; in my opinion, it's dog shite, but what do I know? The issue with Octane Render is it infects your assets with little nodes. Unless you have "show hidden nodes" turned on, you'll never know you have them. Now, normally I would have "show hidden nodes" turned on, but a few months back, I formatted my PC and forgot to enable it again when I reinstalled everything, so once again, I was slowly infected once more. "But Cell, what's the big issue with that?" I hear you say, Well, the issue with that is some of my renders had over 50,000 hidden nodes, making a single DUF over 1GB in size. Keep in mind a normal Duf shouldn't be more than 2,000kb, so you can see the issue. It took no less than 40 minutes to load a render and about 4 hours to delete all 50,000 nodes. It's safe to say this weekend was a waste. But the nodes are gone, and "show hidden nodes" is enabled once more, so I shouldn't have that issue anymore, and production speed can pick up.
  • Some Changes:
Now, I know I said I wasn't going to make any more minigames until at least episode 10 is done... or was it episode 9? ... I don't know, but I said something. Either way, I will need to work on one soon. I'm at a point where if I don't get one out by July, I won't be able to afford the very cushy lifestyle I've become accustomed to ( eating £1 pizza and having the luxury of jerking off all day ). But in all honesty, Steam revenue is way down, to the point where The Cabin probably makes around $40 a month and Adverse Effects is maybe a little higher. With Kingcrab taking the helm of writing The Cabin ( under my watchful eye, of course ), I have a little time freed up to write something new. "But... you were just talking about speeding up production of The Cabin, Cell, my dear boy. Wouldn't doing the art for a minigame slow you back down?" Ah, I hear you; it absolutely would, which is why I won't be doing the art. I've been in talks with another artist ( I say "another" like I'm one myself ), and he's agreed to do the art while I do the writing/coding. So we shouldn't see a dip in productivity, at least no more than the shittiness we've already seen

There was more I wanted to talk about, but it took me that long to ramble above that I forgot what I was going to say. I'll leave you with this: the artist I plan on doing a minigame with mostly does NTR or female-led corruption games. As you know... I don't. That being said, we might need to find some middle ground that'll make sense for us both, which is why we'll be spitballing some ideas which I'll eventually turn into a poll for you guys to vote on. I will, of course, have a couple of my special landlady love stories as an option, and if those win, then those win. But, at some point, we might need to do one for his supporters, so keep that in mind.

Hey all,

Just wanted to give a quick update about this last month and what to expect in the coming months.

First off, I had high hopes that episode 9 would be out this month; sadly, due to some family issues I'm having to delay it a little. I had some family problems at the start of the month, but that all died down after a week, but then yesterday it all went to hell again. I won't go into any detail about it, but I'm having to look after my 3 nieces during the day, and ( for obvious reasons ) I can't work on a porn game with them around.

That being said, progress hasn't come to a total halt; I am still working where I can. It's just a little tricky, but I see a lot of late nights and early starts in my future. That being said, let me give you a little update on episode 9/10.

So as for the writing, Crab has finished the writing for the 1st scene of episode 10 and will be starting on the 2nd soon. And for the art, I have 7 scenes complete and have 2 more left to do. Those last 2 scenes aren't anything too tricky; however, the 9th scene will require a lot of new coding that I'm not 100% sure I can do yet. If I can't, I have friends that can walk me through it so it will get done.

I also have a few new features I want to add into episode 9, but 1 might require a restart of the game, so I may delay adding that in. I'll let you know once I've done some actual tests.

Also, I posted on Steam that I'll be doing monthly dev notes at the end of each month. I've decided to change this to the middle of the month instead, as, like now, if there are any delays, knowing at the end of the month isn't going to help anyone.

Hey all,

Quick update for you this time, without me rambling too much. All the art and writing is done for episode 9; my priority now is rendering, which is still going to take about another week, so release will be at the end of the month, but it will be this month for sure.

I also have some 4Ks done that I plan to release tomorrow, though I'm not 100% sure I'm a fan of them; we'll have to see how they turn out. I'll still release them either way, but keep in mind they might not be my best work :p

And finally, work on Adverse Effects 2 is underway but is kind of slow going. I'm not really in a writing mood at the minute and can't really be bothered doing the brief if I'm being honest. Once I get into a groove with it, it'll be smooth sailing, but right now I'm not feeling it, so my focus is mostly on The Cabin and WTHI.

And lastly, I don't normally like to talk about finances, but Steam has taken a massive hit recently; with all the crap that came out with the activist group and payment processors, I'm finally starting to see some impact from it, and it's not good. I'm not going to go into any numbers or anything; I'm just adding this in for any other developers that are feeling the impact too: you're not alone. It's not going to affect the development of the game; even if it gets banned on Steam or whatever, I'll still be developing it, so fear not.

Is this story planned for 10 episodes? Seeing it a bit stuck, I am hesitant to start it, if it is either short before finished (one way or the other).

I feel like she's gonna be one of the people we've already met. I don't know if the ages line up, but maybe it's Kaydence. I forget the timeline.

I considered that, but April has a sister. There was no mention of a second sister unless she's adopted. I suppose we don't really know.
