At its heart it's a porn game. Yes, a main story is good to have so we're not just aimlessly going to and from work (like real life) but since this is a sandbox game the characters all need to have compelling content besides just what the main story allows.

I disagree, I'll agree that both the MC and John are both assholes, but distinctly different kinds of assholes. The MC is a manipulative borderline sociopath who treats people like toys, but on the whole when interacting with is more or less pleasant and sociable. This is not uncommon, funny enough, for protagonists in video games, particularly dominant themed porn games, but having protagonists act completely spastic and out line, ruining "people" or NPCs lives, will, or self-determined character is pretty common, because ultimately a game is about exploring fun hypotheticals you can't explore in real life, which sometimes involve murdering innocent people because they ragdoll in a funny way, or just pushing people off of a high ledge because it's inherently satisfying.
This is very much me. I do love me some sub content and I don't even mind the dom content with certain types of assholes. But John is everything I despise and I can't even find it fun in a fantasy way. So that a character like him gets the fun maledom content is sad for me, *but* not everything has to be made for me and those who get aroused by this have hit the jackpot with it. And I approve of really fleshing out those routes.

Wow, a year of John updates. Such a great, well designed road map.
Yeah, John is just basically the bad Hollywood stereotype of a high school bully, and his dom route doesn't flesh out his character in any way. You would think that after all these updates focusing on this aspect of him, you'd get more levels, but nope, he's basically still just the mean jock who wants to shove the MC into the locker, flush his head in the toilet, and steal his waifus. And once you meet the conditions for his dom John route, you're stuck in there, and you're doomed to a route of getting NTR'd.
Heck, the fact that you can't have consensual sex with John without turning him into a woman, and instead we get 30 updates giving John unique dom mechanics, just boggles my mind.
I’m not a fan of gender bender in most cases, so outside of experimentation withe the John dom route, I never took dosing John very far until recently but always dosed him at least once for the bonus materials. Dosing him once or twice (on his submissive route) and leaving him there makes him way less of an asshole (to the player specifically or to people generally, depending on whether you dose him once or twice) while leaving his personality basically intact and not forcing him to do anything drastic. He’s boring if you do that because obviously nothing else is happening if you just leave him alone, but a lot more pleasant in his randomly occurring events.
It’s part of the John dom route, so you have to suck his cock twice (easiest way to do this is bring him a beer in the early afternoon and not dose it), then dose his beer while you’re submissive. Assuming Penny isn’t too far along in her dosage routes, this leads to the John dom route, after which you just wait (and say no when offered the chance to reset your relationships).
