This is what I wish some other devs did, especially the ones who have plenty of resources to actually hire competent people, but sadly most devs have too much ego and wouldn't let anyone touch their work even under strict supervision. I hope this move works out for the best for everyone, thanks for report Joshy!
Not saying you're wrong, but there's another side to this as well.

This space has a lot of prospective devs/coders/artists looking for a break in a field without a traditional career structure. Finding someone off the street (or more likely off a message board) who is both (a) able to deliver a quality product (script, code, images) consistently and reliably and (b) content to play second fiddle on someone else's project, can be challenging, and you can waste a lot of time by bringing on the wrong person (or the "right" person who just happens to flake out for some reason).

Obviously I hope it works out in this case. Just saying that it's not just a matter of ego for devs shying away from bringing in outside help: Quite often it's also a matter of prudence.

I'll share the dev log, but I don't feel comfortable sharing previews any more, sorry guys.

Hey guys, it’s time for this week’s dev log!

Not a ton of new stuff to report on the development front this week. Like I mentioned before, I decided to redo a few scenes with new visuals and a different choice structure since I wasn’t happy with how they felt, both on their own and within the larger story. I’m really happy with how the chapter is shaping up now and can’t wait to share it with you later this month. I don’t have an exact date yet, but I’m aiming to have the first alpha release out before the end of the month.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve now got someone working with me part time. They’ll be handling all the post work for images and videos, as well as fine-tuning and polishing up the coding, both in upcoming updates and going back through past chapters. They’ll also be taking on translations and helping complete some of the extra features I’ve been planning.

Another big task they’ll be handling is building up the foundations for special releases, like the Halloween special. Using my existing characters and environments, they’ll get everything set up so I can jump straight into writing and coding the dialogue. That means I’ll only need to do around 30% of the renders and animations myself, which makes these smaller side VNs much easier and faster to produce. I’ve always wanted to offer these little bonus stories for my patrons, and this should finally make that possible.

For now though, all focus is on getting the next big update out quicker than the last two. Ideally, I’d like to get back to a steady rhythm of releases every three months or so, without any drop in quality or content. And for anyone wondering if the game will start to look or feel different now that I’ve got help, don’t worry. I’ll be overseeing everything and have final say on all visuals and writing, so the tone, style, and overall look of the game won’t change. I’ve always aimed for a simple, easy-to-digest writing style that a lot of people enjoy, it’s not meant to be high literature, and that’s by design, so that will not change.

The specials, on the other hand, might experiment a bit more with tone and structure just to try new things and see what sticks, so keep an eye out for those in the new year.

That’s all for now. Thanks as always for your patience and support, you guys are the best!

I personally prefer communication from the dev then not. Also takes what like under 5 minutes to type out a progress report? My problem is that with so many devs its pure bs to keep people donating. So many devs have strung people along that a lot of us simply don't trust any dev until they have PROVEN trustworthy.

Well, I'm a little confused. He says the update is a huge update. It was like Chapter 6, he was shouting "a major update," but then he says at the end that he had to cut half the content, the update was too big. He shouted the same thing about Chapter 7, also a major update, twice as big as Chapter 6. Then he says again that he had to cut the content again, there was too much of it for that chapter. And now it's the same old story again, and he's shouting "a major update" again, the next major update is bigger than the previous two. And everyone's already doubting it, and that his words mean more quickly, and he wants each update to be released every three months. Hahaha, he couldn't change his horse from laughing, his shoes fell off.

I hear you, and of course it's always best to hear from the Dev / Creator directly. However, some kind folks on here like Joshy have shared the Dev Post from Patreon on here for fans to get the latest info, and it should be appreciated.

As for those that are on here complaining about Devs / Creators and how long it takes them to deliver each update, it is COMICAL when it's coming from people that don't give any support and are only waiting for the VN to become available for free on here and other similar platforms. If anyone doesn't give support to the Dev / Creator you have nothing to complain about nor does the Dev / Creator owe you anything. Nevertheless, the Dev / Creator always reaches out to fans and supporters on here from time to time, but some negative trolls have nothing better to do than to throw jabs because they are not getting their free VN updates fast enough lol... :ROFLMAO: -

I been supporting The East Block Dev since the beginning and I am happy to continue giving my support on Patreon. I understand creative works and coding are not something that are easy to manage when doing quality good works alone, especially when it comes to any VN project that requires some good storytelling that makes sense. There is a lot involved when creating a quality VN, yet somehow some people just don't understand this.

I also give my support to other Dev / Creators / Artists and been doing so for years, and yes, there are some deceptive Devs out there, one of which mislead and defrauded me last year, but I trust Bobbyboy Productions and some other awesome Devs / Creators / Artists, and I appreciate the works they do to keep us entertained, and they have my full support.

When it comes to giving support, no one is obligated or forced to continue giving support to any Dev / Creator. Any supporter can easily pause or cancel their support until the new version of the VN is released, and if they want to continue giving the Dev support, as I do, because they appreciate and enjoy the Dev's VN works, that is fine, too!

If anyone wants to reach out to any VN Dev / Creator they support to express any concerns, feel free to do so. But posting negative BS on this thread or anywhere on this platform to throw jabs at the Dev / Creator is nothing more than trolling and there's no need for it. We can all do better.

With that said, People on here that don't give any support to this or any other Devs / Creators on this platform should be thankful that they eventually get to experience every update of the VN when it is publicly released for FREE!

On a positive and final note, I am definitely looking forward to the new upcoming version of The East Block. * Kathryn is ONE super hot beauty when it comes to VNs overall and the Dev is doing a great job, even if it takes him a bit longer to release the new update. It will be worth the wait.* Cheers! (y)

Does anyone else think Bobby has probably made things harder for himself by adding so many characters to this story.
I think the storyline with the guy in the jail cell had good potential and we know he has Katherine's number to communicate but it gets pushed aside for new storylines.
We could have had Rebecca or Courtney walking around the streets and all of a sudden the flasher pops out. She is scared and disgusted at first but eventually her curiosity gets the better of her and she goes back looking for him.
I was a fan of Katherine on the zoom meetings and Luke encouraging her to be sexy and expose herself. Luke clearly likes Katherine on show for other men so I would have liked to see her still working from home and using the zoom meetings to keep the sexy game going with Luke.
It just feels like some of these good storylines get lost by adding more every new update.
3 updates a year with a complicated storyline and you could be looking at 10+ years to get through everything in the game.

I've seen a similar comment in a couple of different threads lately, and although it will be on a game-by-game basis, I have to say my response here is the same - I don't think there are too many characters. One of the key elements that's relevant here is choice - the player can choose to largely avoid one character, while having sexy fun with another. That choice would be a lot less likely if the character list was to be reduced. I also think it's just more natural that there are more than just a small handful of characters you can interact with. So far, I don't think we've had a point where I've thought "X side character is missing content because we're focusing on Y side character", I think it's been okay in that respect so far. You've got Alex who hasn't been around much, but he's in jail, so that's natural in terms of how active he can be in the storyline, but also in terms of what it's possible for him to do/for Kathryn to do with him. It does look like we are set to see him in the next update though, given one of the previews, and with Dominic now sharing his cell, that does at least give more opportunity for the story there.
