are old saves compatible with new version? judging by the changelog it does sound one would have to start over again?

Am I fucking retarded? I downloaded v0.5 update 2, start new game and am in the middle of a forest full of enemies. I'm pretty sure it wasn't always like this.
Edit: downloaded a fix from post #142, That fixed it. By the way, at the time of typing this message, the link to this fix is NOT on the front page.
Edit 2: Encountered another bug, after finishing the fight in the final introductory mission for join the guild, the main menu overly appears on top whilst the cutscene with the two veteran adventures and Rebecca plays. The two MCs become invisible and it's not just the menu PNGs that appear. the buttons actually work.
Bugfest for real.

started a new game, appeared in the middle of the forest, downloaded the latest fix, didn't help

I haven't applied the new fix, but this is important. listen to this.
I actually managed to "fix" it myself. I want people to know the INSANE fuckery I had to do.
*AHEM* So I played the game with the fix from post #142, the old fix. Fine until the battle for the guild application which I mentioned in my own previous posts. Where it just breaks completely....
So, idea pops in head. I'll try the version without any fix applied by instead moving over the save made in the old fix version. Except the saves do not appear.
So I have another idea... I move the save back out THEN load the broken game in the broken start, save on the slots, then copy back the saves from the fixed version, now they appear and work. This fixed the cutscene menu bug/invisible MCs bug after doing the battle.
How the fuck does this happen?
