That wasn't a bug... just your version ( 14 ) ended at that point and you should have picked it up before the storylock started... check the oracle constantly ! It will guide you step by step what needs to be done and when...You were right, it was a bug. Now I downloaded the new version and I reached the attic
But on the other hand you can start with the misc. items as well in each update... just ask the townsfolk and decipher their hints Hi... I'm having a problem... When you open game menu there is bar on upper side. Check what you miss. Also talk with NPC, they give you some hints.
