If you're just trying to see new content you don't need to save scum (if you meant that literally), just click back and re-request a contract, then use the ghostname cheat. The ghost rerolls each time.Yeah, well, I *may* have save-scummed the contract assignment 'til I got the Banshee...

A typical ghost hunt works along the same steps basically:
1. Enter the house
2. Start with switching on the light in each room you are in
3. Measure temperature
4. Move to next room
This is the basic step to either find a ghost in the room because the temperature is high or finding the ghosts's favourite room due to the temperature. Certain low temperatures mean it is either empty currently or not a favourite room
Moving from room to room this way enhances the chances for an interaction (ghost switches light off) and tells you which room you have generally checked.
Once you get either a reaction or find a room with high enough temperature you start sticking to that room. Keep on taking temperature until you get a reaction and then measure with the other instruments.
P.S. The base instruments are not precise enough to guarantee success of those measurements. Thus getting a better thermometer is essential early on, since the higher version gives you colour coded results back.

Once you reach a certain level you get the ability to bring cursed items to the witch. But you can also sell those items to the girl in the adult shop instead
Bug report: I got high temp then ectoplasm then fingerprints on a hunt at the basic house which doesn't result in any ghosts. Double checked the high temp and tried checking the rest but Brook found spiritbox clue. Since I verified the high temp the ghost was either a cthulion (temp+spiritbox+ecto) or a mimic (temp+spiritbox+prints), tried both and the witch confirmed mimic.
Yes I am sure I didn't just leave ectoplasm checked after a previous hunt, yes I am sure I got it (it was a pic I hadn't gotten before for ectoplasm).

Not sure what you do different, but the sequence is usually: witch tells you about cursed items and that she will pay for them. You pick up a hunt and find something and sell it to her. Take a new hunt and dont sell the next item. When you go back to the adult shop the girl should tell you, that she would be willing to buy those things as well. Every sold item adds 1 to her relation after that
