VN - Ren'Py - The Grey Dream [Ep. 5] [TheGreys]

i'm halfway through episode 2 now but allready wanted to comment a bit.
Graphics are great, i love some music in the background so that's a plus. The language could do with some cleaning up (so someone who would corect some things would be great). Apart from that it seems nice, i'll update this post probably when i finished episode 4

good charcter disgine and great graphics but ep4 ending dosint make sense and the party was very short i wish if they make it longer but overall its a very good game i like it and i hope to see more of it

Apart from the fact that the sex scenes feel like they've been written by someone who's only sexual experience comes from watching porn, I think it's a pretty decent game with a story that is (maybe) going somewhere intriguing. The LIs look very pretty although many of them look very similar, the MC is likeable enough which not enough games manage to get right imo.

Review for The Grey Dream Ep.4:

Overall: 5/5 - I played this game for the first time at Ep.4. The game nailed the visuals and still did well on everything else. I'm impressed look forward to future updates. I will consider supporting depending on how the next couple of updates go.

Story: 4/5 - The story started out pretty good. It's heavy on drama, and has a few conversations that are way too long. I'm concerned about the mafia theme, though. It's so overused in adult games it makes me want to vomit. There are a few weird things that made me kind of roll my eyes, too. For example, the MC didn't know who Helen's father was even though he dated her for months and spent time at the family beach house. He also didn't recognize Helen's sister (and she didn't recognize him) but later they talk about stuff that happened at the beach house when he was dating Helen. I think the story could use a little work with how it tries to tie things together in the first two episodes. The way this story flows with occasional flashbacks and such is really hard to pull off well without very thorough planning.

Writing: 4.5/5 - The writing is near-perfect which is surprising. The reason I say surprisingly is because I think it's been translated. The reason believe that is because there are occasionally some subtle mistakes, such as cases where it's not appropriate to substitute "I'm" for "I am". There's also a choice screen that says, "You peaked my interest." Then, later in the game dialogue, the correct word "piqued" is used in almost exactly the same sentence. And things like Judy calling herself a "secretary" which is a title really hasn't been used for 30 years.

Renders: 5/5 - The renders are absolutely beautiful. The models for both the women and the men are really good. Kelly's septum ring is a turn-off, but then I realized that it's better than the stereotype skank that shows up in almost every VN who is pierced, tattooed, has part of her head shaved and hair dyed pink/purple/blue/green.

Animations: 5/5 - Animations are fluid and natural and don't look like the resolution dropped by 80%.

Content: 4/5 - The quantity is good for 4 updates but a little light for the 18 months or so that the game has been out. It's hard to gauge where the story is at, but this game seems like it could easily take another 3 to 4 years to complete at the current rate. As for the content quality, the excellent renders and animations make the lewd scenes pretty hot, but the erotic build-up could be a little better.

Sound: 4/5 - In general, the background music is good. There is one piece that is annoying where the balance drifts from left to right and back over and over and that was annoying. The sound effects are also really good, but the game could use more of them.

Gameplay: 4/5 - The game is mostly a VN with only occasional choices and a couple of free-roam segments. For the choices, it's really not clear at all what they do. You can save at each one and check but sometimes you still wonder why the choice exists. The free-roams don't really add anything to the experience, but they're not annoying, either.

Bugs: 5/5 - I didn't encounter any bugs.

Other annoyances and WTFs:
MC goes to help Haley plan a party and he basically does... almost nothing. This segment seemed strange other than to give some more backstory.

I've been following it for almost a year now that I'm going to do a review , it starts out that this game is good, its feel is good, the girls are very pretty, charismatic and fun

Very good game with amazing renders, a pretty good story.

The sex scenes are very well done and quite hot.

Scene/location changes could be a bit clearer here and there as sometimes you're suddenly in a different location.

For my taste most of the women have boobs and butts that are too big, (Except for Lilly who has a mighty fine derrière.) They are very pretty though and have a huge variety in faces and hairstyles. I would have liked a few more athletic or petite girls,I know it's personal preference, but hey, it is a review: my personal opinion.

Still a pretty good game that I will be following with a lot of interest for sure.

A Simple Story driven AVN with A really good Render and animation.
The story so far really engaging the plot piqued my interest.
it is just not fap and done game this more to it than that,
The girls are beautiful HOLY!

I cant wait for more updates, I hope the dev did not taking too long to updates but I know it will, because the render was so good.
it probably should take most of the times.

I just want to say congrats to the dev and good luck for the updates.
if the dev play the card right this may become top AVN out there.

Overall, a fun game with interesting characters and plot lines.

But... it's a little rough. Dialogue streams that are clunky, renders with artifacts and skin intersecting with fabric... It just lacks a little polish.

However, this is only episode three. I completely understand that some devs take some time to hit their stride. I think there is enough here to warrant keeping an eye on the game, and a patreon sub during release months.

I hope the dev keeps the game going, as I think it has great potential... just maybe with a tiny bit more attention to detail.

Good game, the renderings are beautiful, the sex scenes are good, nothing to say, the story is nice without being incredible, a nice surprise, I hope that the game will have a good future, because I am impatiently waiting for the sequel

Updated Review after playing Chapter 4 and buying it on steam

TLDR : Great game this hidden gem has the potential to compete with some of the other great AVN games out there. one of the better ones ive played not top 10 but top 20- 30 or so at the very least.

There are times where there doesn't seem to be much story going on in this game. That's because it's a slow burn story and it doesn't pick up until the end of Chapter 3 and Chapter 3.5. Chapter 4 slowed down again until the end. If you can wait id probably wait until the next update to play this because of the cliffhanger at the end of Chapter 4 makes me think it would make for a better experience if you wait.


Renders : I'm not usually one to judge renders much while the character renders are excellent and overall this game has really good renders. Might just be me but at times I feel like the blur effect on background on some of these renders are too harsh .

Animations : Orginally I thought this had one of the best animations but that is changed after playing more AVN's. The animations are still pretty good but now my critisim is the animations feel a bit weird at the start of the game cause of the speed of them. They improved alot and have an overall better feel to them now they are never bad to begin with however.+ however good the characters and lightning looks really good when a animation plays it makes it even better.

Characters : So far I don't dislike anything about the characters as of yet, they all look beautiful. However there isnt all that much relationship / character building where I ever feel like I start to get to know the characters better, at least not yet.

A bit of criticism : I wish I could rename the page files and saves without having to use URM to organize my saves. Also some renders / animations can look good and bad at the same time because of the compression used. At least the compression artificing ( think that's the right term) is more noticeable in this game than some others I have played.

If the whole game is as I saw in the clip, I will think about the idea of supporting the developer on Patreon . I will also put this comment in the review part, from my perspective it deserves 5 stars. it's a pity that it's not a 10-star ranking, because the game deserves it. Congratulations

It's exciting to see this game really go to a much better place.
It was a 3-4 point game 2-3 updates ago, but now the story seems to be getting a little more serious and going somewhere.
The renders are one of the best, the animations are really good. The story writing seems to be better right now. I may lower the score in the next episode, this is my score for now. Note : If I didn't consider this game as an avn, I would have given it lower.

I really like this game.

❤ As for the rendering, I'm very tribal, it's amazing from the graphics and not old-fashioned and that's an extra point.

Good Points
+ Art style, renders and animations are quite good and sex scenes have animations with a couple of different angles.
+ Most of the girls/women look good; hot, sexy, cute, etc.

Bad Points
- We have two variants for nearly every sex scene, normally I would say it's a good thing giving an immersive feeling, but in this game, it has nearly no purpose because players nearly being forced to see ''Sigma'' variants of those scenes because the amount of ''Sigma'' choices you need to choose for the story, male and female characters for liking you, getting relationship points with them, etc.
- The story is not that original or interesting, and story-telling is not well-written either.
- MC doesn't have a unique design/face.
- The game is nearly 1 year old, and it doesn't have enough story or lewd content for that, it's quite short and unsatisfying.
- Most of the sex scene positions and animations are too close, better sex scene positioning and more 3rd person middle range (positions at least the character's faces can be seen, not just their some body parts) are needed.

For The End
It's not a bad game, but I wouldn't say it's great either, aside from good-looking renders it doesn't have any other charm on it or enough content with those renders. With only having good renders and animations I don't think it deserves more than 2.5 stars, with a better story and story-telling with enough content it might become a 3-4 stars rate in the future tho.

Crazy renders, awesome models (maybe a little bit of variety would be nice, like someone chubbier or older, would feel more real) and good writing. The plot turns better in every chapter.

The only thing that bugs me is that some of the sex scenes and relationships feel more or less real, while others doesn't. Sometimes it feels like the chapter is handsome, the girl too and they just flirt like it's a tottally normal thing. That feels a little weak for me.

But the game has a lot of potential and has already a good amount of content.

As of version 3.0:

Well, first off, if I am honest: The first two releases didn't quite get me. i thought: "Yeah, nice renders. A bit of a 08/15 story to go from sex scene to sex scene."
But that changed with the end of 3.0, because NOW I see things getting interessting.

So Renders are top quality.
Sex scenes are nice to watch (and fap if you are in the mood).

Music is there, but no really something I am into it. The better parts are smooth background music. The other are a bit on the "elevator music" side. But it isn't disturbing - or even distracting. Oh and it's not stuff used everywhere else. At least I think I never had this before.

The story starts off a bit on the uninteresting side:
MC gets a new job and runs into girls to get lucky every day (if you chose to). So yeah, all the girls are into him. But at least he looks like the part and if someone like him is nice to females... let us just say it is believable.
The girls shown are interesting so far, and yeah I did them all, except one. I think my favourites until now are Kelly (no sex til yet as far as I know, but she is an awesome friend) and Anna, who is not only sexy (they all are) but funny too.
Well back to the story: So MC starts a new job and gets a first seemingly impossible task. The kind of task in which many failed before him. But he is determined so see it done. I wouldn't want to spoiler something, so let us leave it at that.
As written before it starts getting interesting at the end of 3.0, so with this update I moved it onto my "keep an eye on it"-data drive.

Had two failscreens, one direct in the first 2 minutes, but they could be passed with "ignore" without further problems.

I give this the benefit of doubt, as in now we are getting somewhere and would rate 3.0 with 4,5/5 stars. Before that latest update it was more like a 3,5/5 for me, because I am a sucker for the story.

So better not dissapoint me, dev.

There is a good game in here, it is just hard to find. The renders are beautiful, there is some interesting story setup. The premise alone intrigued me and the bits of what have happened in the story are surely fascinating. What is the issue? The story itself and the personality of the characters are heavily brought down by the abundant grammar issues and stilted dialogue. Not to mention many upon many typos. I read the first release thinking maybe these would be ironed out later after others shared similar opinions regarding the writing and grammar issues. So I didn't play the second release and waited until the third release to see if anything changed, and nothing did. In fact, the more story and text which consistently has these issues despite being noted by people in the game thread and in other reviews is just disheartening. Especially when a visual novel by its very nature has tons of text and is primarily about reading and getting to know the characters and experience the story. Both of which are bogged down because of these issues.
