I really like your backgrounds.

I am curious though, sometimes you have very clean flat shading and line work but other times you opt for very noisy textured objects (example, the wooden door / cement steps for the basement)

Do you find these styles clash or are they intended for contrast?

What's your thought process or is it just "in progress" ?
Good point. TY
I think its a bit of both.
When i started this project, it was not only a noob developer, but also a newbie digital artist.
In analog, i mostly draw in black and white and use hatching. An example can be found a few posts up at #68.

I had no idea what i was doing and what was possible.
But if iremembver correctly i wanted to have a little uncany feel to it.
Sometimes i even used real textures, like stone when you're standing outside of the house.

I thought of it like the cellshading in borderlands?
But as I progressed, I lost sight of that, and that's why we have the inconsistency that we have.

I haven't decided what to do with them yet, but it's important that all the BGs have a similar look.
I like the compositions, but I had the idea to make them more like paintings so that the chacrers' sprites and the ineractables are more emphasized.

Nothing here looks bad or out of place to be clear.

This blending of "Cel Shaded" realistic textures with super stylized flat shaded objects seems consistent throughout all your backgrounds.

My second question is - what techniques do you use to draw attention to important things like Doors? Do you specifically use high contrasting colors like red to make sure doors are very noticeable - is there any other techniques your using that I'm too stupid to see?

I'm glad you're keeping at this! You're too humble, when I said your BG art is INCREDIBLE, I meant it. I especially love your use of colours. Very easy on the eyes! You also put a lot of thoughts into your designs, I like reading them. Keep going, but no pressure! Always happy to check on your latest work!
