Did you try without the patch?
That issue used to happen ages ago, like, back when the game was reworked.
You can also try going to:

C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\RenPy\THEINNR-1543332512

And delete the persistent file.

The patch was uploaded here on May 2 and it is definitely not May 2, and isn't just variables, but custom dialog that appears to need updating with each new version.

Just make sure the version number in the name of the patch matches the version of the game you download, and it should be easy.
