There's this thing called "replayability" that used to be an important part of game design, which was instead replaced by a combination of shoving the next one out and implementing "FOMO" mechanics.

In your biased opinion...It's just bloated and overuses standard RPGM combat way too much
Aside from the lack of respawning MOBs and random encounters...and since combat is often mandatory you spend hours and hours looking at most basic jRPG design, that remembers time when Square end Enix were separate companies.
I don't believe that you wanted to like this at all. I also don't believe that you're a big JRPG fan, or a fan of any CRPG, old or new.I really wanted to like this game, I approached it 2 or 3 times, since I'm big jRPG fan and the writing was rather decent, but after 10-15 hours it always felt more like work than entertainment.
Particularly given how you've done nothing but complain about this game in this thread, your opinion should be taken with a dump-truck of salt.
