Look around at day or night and you should find where to start the next mission.

As the current update not all the different types of work are available, for Cassiel is only 3 and for Sapphire is only 2.
For Cassiel you need to continue getting punishment from delivering bad orders until you see a option with only question marks.
For Sapphire you need her to have 40+ perversion and non-virgin to trigger a dialogue at the end of her shift to unlock the other type of work.

I have no idea where to go or what to do in this game. I've walked through every single area with both characters and have found no more side quests or anything to interact with. No sassafras plant or w/e it's called, no better place to sleep, nothing.

The plant is on the slums, go there as Sapphire and you see a plank blocking a hole, Sapphire is the online one that can remove the plank, interact with the plank and then interact with the hole and you find the plant, as for how to continue, you can join the discord server of the game and there you can ask for help with screenshots and everything more easily.
