IMO the tag here is wrong. Furry is furry, this one should be a tag like kemonomimi or something similar, but as you say there seems to be no middle ground

Damn, the art barely looks like AI if at all. This is very high quality. Seems more likely there is an actual artist behind this and they're just using AI for assistance.

no, youre just bad at parsing AI art. Sure, AI doesnt fuck up fingers anymore but its still rough around the edges. Not to mention this is in the most basic ass anime generative ai style you can find.
