That's why you should pay attention to the date that the review was written. Something that started well might have gone downhill, something that started slowly might have become better. I have seen many examples here of people commenting "the game started great, you can see that the earlier positive reviews were overwhelmingly positive, but now it sucks".

And speaking of opinions, that's what reviews are, subjective opinions of all kinds of people ("de gustibus non est disputandum"). It wouldn't be very smart using one review that you just stumbled across as the absolute truth, but you can at least use them as some kind of reference, using your criteria.

However, if something started bad but might have become better later, it still shows a serious flaw in being inconsistent regarding quality in my opinion.

I disagree with this. That is why I mentioned I am legend as an example. What right now may be seem as bad quality, many times what people complain about ""story is getting nowhere", may be necessary for what it is to come. But this is just me, I only evaluate finished projects. I do understand however that a story getting interesting from the beginning is important to keep the reader into it and is specially more important for partial releases as the stories we find here, as they otherwise can get abandon without support. But I still can only truly judge a story until I read it completely. One of the VN I love the most is Muvluv, with a first part out of three that is trivial and cliche to the point of being a joke itself. But it is necessary for the second and third part that are amazing.

I think these games are shit and probably getting fake likes from new accounts because these games are terrible and there's no way that many people actually like them.

This forum has 2.4 million members. How can you be so sure that anything that you don't like must be getting fake likes and reviews? By your logic every top game except SS is fueled by fake likes/reviews so the same can be said about SS.

Most games that get popular is because they did get attention out of it's concept, personally I haven't seen any top game that I can't say it's overrated. Out of my mind I would say:

-WVM: It's a constant betrayal to my intelligence and choices, I literally had a WTF moment when the MC's girlfriend wanted to give me a harem and didn't care that I was cheating behind her back at all. It didn't help that all the girls just literally throwed themselves to the MC and in fact we could become a father by impregnating random girls.

I suppose that if you want a harem fantasy it could do the job, but the level of bullshit is too much for any normal person that doesn't deactivate their brain.

-Big brother: It had an interesting concept but it ended up being a pure mess, overall it's like in a story you get to the last boss only to find out it was all an illusion and he is a wimp. After you get away the antagonist the game loses the point and it tries to develop on the aspect of "get as much sex as you can", which is literally the same as most games.

-Summertime saga: It lacks a soul, the game doesn't track anything about the MC be it if you are a virgin or not, who you interacted with and things like that, but at least this one has good points, like the UI and the work being made towards the game in multiple aspects, most people wouldn't be able to know what engine was used to make the game, overall on the visual aspect it did a good job and I have to give it that. Out of the top games I believe this is the only one that I would keep playing with each update if it has enough content.

There are a lot of five star ranked crap games but hey, I guess if you have a big fanbase that's why happens.
I will say this.. Acting Lessons hasn't aged great in my opinion, like I'm not rushing back to play it anytime soon.

Games like DOD on the other hand I still play every now and then. Milfy City isn't overrated at all in my opinion, I just think people are fed up with the Dev and the best way to show the frustration is to shit on one's project. I mean look at how many games are copy and pasting the game.

Summertime saga, i get that decent 2D games are exactly that easy to find but, it's meh for me, very little going for it, it's not a bad game but it's definitely not a standout good game either.

Underrated, Monster girl dreams, best monstergirl game I've ever played partly because it's far less extreme than many and has great writing and characterisation, it really sets the bar for text oriented games IMO.

Ethan's legacy, the best unfinished VN that i've seen, the dev got caught by a story spiralling out of control IMO, pity he never got past the first of three acts, it could have been amazing.

Midnight Paradise, gets a lot of shit for the teething problems it had in the early stages, going from a very buggy unity version to then get a full overhaul into Ren'py, where it should have been from the start. Even now people are still saying "no sex content, boo, game is shit", yeah, it's far better than it's rep would suggest so without doubt it's underrated.

Imo the most underrated VN out there. Unlike others that use the same engine with similar models, this person draws everything and animates it too.
The amount of animated and drawn content is tremendous and the quality matches it.
It's all beautifully drawn with a really interesting unique story to boot. With the neat adventures that occur, the wholesome events you witness, the great amount of humour, the progression of the characters, it's all just amazing all around. I can't give it enough praise

I wasn't going to get into that one purely because some people know I have a personal dislike of the dev and I already hate one of his games, hating on both would be a bit much.

But I do think badik is garbage.

I hate the MC, I don't like the setting, I despise his friend, the love interests are all bland and the one interesting character is side content.

I hear people call it a masterpiece.

If badik is the masterpiece of adult games then Beverly Hills 90210 is the masterpiece of TV shows.

I think Being a DIK has some major flaws but I think it did a lot of things right as well. For me it's neither over nor under rated. My breakdown:

Pros:
- very polished interface
- well implemented gallery
- very well done sound (the best I've seen so far for any adult game)
- pretty high quality animations compared to most other adult games (although there is some significant clipping in some of them)
- decent variety of alternative scenes so it feels like your choices matter and adds to replayability
- good character building (by adult game standards), I felt an emotional connection to most of the major characters whether positive or negative
- good job customizing character models so they don't all just look like cookie cutter copy paste jobs of the same character every other game uses

Cons:
- minigames (I have to play with a cheat mod, I hate minigames)
- arbitrary choices for progress (basically requiring extensive reloads or a walkthrough to get the scenes you want)
- fairly weak story, although I personally enjoyed the whole hell week setting I can see why others wouldn't

Sure but the games listed in the poll will always show up everywhere because they are being played by a lot of people. So you can be sure that most of them would pop up again if the same poll would be made again regardless of how good the animations in other games are.

In 2018 the summertime the update comes within month with bug fix then they completed Debbie, her daughter story in 6 months yes you red that right and then they become popular after that they start making people fool they can provide us much more but they become lazy basically they are from China.

Oh my god how the hell is this even rated this high? You have uncanny Daz3D models, boring storyline, random (also boring) minigames, and the infamous 1-pixel porn magazines you must click on.

Most Underrated: Rignetta's Adventure
While crude and simple, it understands how to properly make a porn game. It's probably underrated since there's not alot to say about it, but it's a top-down shooter where you gun down a bunch of monsters trying to fuck you.
