If I recall correctly, Laura has a combat advantage. So I have to train like 2~3x as hard as her just to keep ahead. This would pretty much even out if I had picked athletic.

Which is the entire point.

The average Null just puts in the effort to be fit. As Laura observes, Athletic Null makes sure his fitness is functional.

An Academic Null beating Laura on the rankings is completely possible because you as the player put that effort in. It's just you chose the background that didn't make it easier.

I'll use the whole D&D class comparison thing.

Laura is protected by Good Samaritan laws. Neither Rogue nor Null were in position to refuse. Null though -- he was interfering in the consensual exchange between Colossus and Juggernaut. Colossus specifically requested Juggernaut's attention even if he could have been less vague to conform to guidelines.

Ngl, I went back to try roguelike and it's completetly unplayable coming back from this, mostly because it runs like shit, literally the only advantage that game has is the amount of girls.
