But someone has to take one for the team, otherwise, how else are we going to know what happens? ...That don't involve data mining, so Kirby, no. Down boy. I'm referring to playing the game conventionally, as usual.

Hey, Incarnation123. Since you think of Rogue as a "walking piece of wood", what happens when you fake having a seizure when she asks you to touch her?

Giving players a sense of... danger? scale? or something, even just random conversation (maybe chats with Xavier? give him something to be in the game besides be there for jobs/story?) that can be little lore dumps to help people that haven't read the comics and expanded universe(s) get a sense of how dangerous things are.

might wanna pass that on to the team and see if they could slip something in without taking too much devtime.
Some random suggestions that I could offer are a classic codex, in order to not get in the way for people who do know their stuff
So... this already exists in game :). Although, there isn't information for all enemies quite yet.
There are multiple tabs talking about Juggernaut for example, as well as recommend reading material in the comics if you wanted to learn more.

Too late. I already read the code on what happens if you troll her a long while ago.

Any long term consequence?
Just the thought of hurting such a precious gal unnerves me.

3rd*

he got his collar bone and stab wound heal in no time using the same power
1. Being thrown against a wall: 2 days

2. Being blasted by a laser: 6 weeks

3. Being stabbed: No big deal.

Two things about this. First is that Null's powers are developing over the course of the year. Secondly, wounds being proportionate is how we heal in real life.

A bunch of rednecks is gonna hurt less than a guy with super strength. A laser meant to bypass invulnerability is gonna hurt more than a punch against a wall.

I can't and won't spoil the finale but by that point his powers are more under his control because he's been a year of training.

Giving players a sense of... danger? scale?
Giant man bodies another giant man made out of metal. Giant robots shooting lasers and batting people away like flies. A bunch of rednecks that get folded like lawn chairs but get a few knicks in. It's pretty obvious if you use your eyes.

chances are, his body is still growing and adapting to handle the power itself meaning it took weeks to work like Logan and Laura's does
This. People don't seem to comprehend that his powers are developing. Considering the main plot REQUIRES you to do at least some training, I thought that'd clue people in.

"He's a lvl 1 noob going up against lvl 99 mafia bosses" makes sense, but you gotta give some Ws to this mf. Folding a small backwater town singlehandedly is cool enough, but if he comes back coughing blood too it will feel closer to a defeat than a win, and add to the trope of this mf being a medicine beta tester.
Dude. Even Wolverine thinks being stabbed hurts. Is taking ANY damage at all a loss? I'm not trying to be sassy. I'm genuinely asking.

I'm sorry but the fact that you consider folding a small backwater town with some damage a loss is bewildering.

Shonen characters start off small and getting small wins, and when the threat is bigger than they can handle, they either resort to pulling off some bs power up
... What do you call Null getting a regen power, a berserk mode, and a strength boost? Sounds like a shonen power up to me.

Do we have to start playing the My Hero Academia soundtrack? I mean I would if we could because it slaps HARD but still.

Well there is, you guys are missing the trees for the forest.
Shadow king? professor Xavier told you he had to fight that guy himself.
Juggernaut? you meet him and hes beating the snot out of Colossus, whos the biggest MF in school and toying with him.
Sentinels? they barge in through the ceiling, instantly know who is a mutant, and start shooting to kill with all the kids in the mall being unable to do jackshit to them.
All the times that the girls have told Null to stay put, they have been COMPLETELY right, hes way in over his head and does not understand the context of most of the things he ends up facing, that gets students killed all the time in the comics.
Pretty much this.

I know what I'm saying can come off as being defensive but I'm more confused than anything else. We're going the route of show don't tell.

Xavier being visibly disturbed by the Shadow King potentially coming back. Colossus being bodied with X-23 showing a moment of concern, GIANT ROBOTS CRASHING THROUGH THE CEILING.

I like the suggestion of a codex but if people look at all these things and don't understand why Null is able to be harmed by them when Xavier has yet to deem him competent enough to join the X-Men... Like guys, LOOK at what Null is going against.

1) I've seen a lot of references to Marvel characters that aren't mutants and what their fate is in this universe - is this just gratuitous nerdery/worldbuilding or is the focus of the game intended to expand beyond just the X-men?
The game is focused on the X-Men but it takes place in a specific timeline. All of the events from other comics that happen between Giant Sized X-Men to the Onslaught saga are happening concurrently off camera.

The big one I share a lot is that Spiderman's Clone Saga is taking place over the course of Chapter 1.

So is Captain America's stint as Nomad.

2) For chapter 1 the story structure involves slice of life stuff then a major event at the end of the season. Is this the planned structure for the whole game or have you talked about mixing it up more? Say with more regular events that build up on what happened/will happen with the last/next battle, or just dialogues that reference it. Seems like that might be a lot more work though, but I'm asking since some of the comic arcs the game's adapting are more complex than others.
Chapter 1 is meant to establish the setting. It's slice of life with random events happening because at the time Null is JUST a student. Most of Chapter 1 isn't adapting anything in particular from the comics.

Chapter 2 onward will be adapting full on storylines and story arcs. I'm not confirming anything because the writers haven't locked down the final execution but as you transition from living in the world of Marvel into the world of comic arcs, you can expect the threats to show up a bit more than just at the end of a season.

3) Maybe this is spoiler-worthy, but how different is Null's power from Rogue's? At first glance it seems like he has a better version of what she does.
Maddening would kill me and my bloodline if I said anything.

4) What's Null's reputation at the end of Chapter 1, after these various battles? Do other characters know Xavier has a special interest in him?
Depends on how you play him.

Noble/Eager Null: You're seen as a stand up guy by people who like that. Others will view you as a boyscout.

Reluctant/Pragmatic Null: You're seen as a cautious planner by people who like that. Others will view you as indecisive and unable to stand by your convictions.

Bitter/Anti-Hero Null: You're seen as a no nonsense guy with aggression issues and some of the people around you are concerned about the path you're on. Others will see that you have the resolve to get shit done and that you're willing to do what's necessary.

If you played inconsistent then no one will have a solid opinion. People will view you as unpredictable and depending on the individual they'll respect that or consider you a wildcard that may be a potential risk.

We're still focused on finishing the systems and other things in Chapter 1.

So I genuinely have no idea what the writers plan on doing with these reputations or to what degree they'll effect gameplay as my signature says, I just outline them. The writers take my outlines and go from there.

As a general reminder for those who don't know what my job as the outliner is and how it's different from the writers.

I read all the comics and then write character profiles and synopsizes of the storylines and the writers consult those profiles and synopsizes when they adapt the plots and character behavior.

I have a part in helping with events but I don't contribute to dialogue or character development as that's an entirely different skill that our writing team is objectively better at than I am.

I volunteer as our community/PR manager because outlining stuff only takes a few weeks so there'd be several months of me just sitting on my ass if I wasn't talking to you guys.

The answer is right there. His new nullification powers were slowing his healing factor and needed the energy from Laura, Jean and Rogue to keep him going until he healed. Hence the six weeks.
Also I thought this would be the take everyone would have. Not just a handful.

Anytime. And fuck me I had forgotten how addictive TNH can be, it's being nice replaying this game.
Responses like these are why we don't really prioritize complaints about the grind anymore.

We're willing to tweak but any overhauls are pretty much done already. We have our audience. Appealing to the masses is one of the biggest reasons why the AAA industry is failing so hard.

IDK. Maybe if we put Wolfsbane in the game we'll get those billionaire furries to come out. Lobby them to get further overhauls lol

I assume just a hefty hit to love and/or trust.
Not within the first ten minutes of the game. ... I mean, if I liked the prospect of game development, I would do it, along with a list of other 'this game hates the player' ideas that I have for a hypothetical "The Faceless Hypothesis".

The only question that really matters is : which one does Laura prefer? :sneaky:

Here I was saying that returning home in dire need of medical aid is kind of a pyrrhic victory. I don't remember the details of that part of the game, though. I got the impression he was badly hurt. So my point was "If going up against the big leagues is too much for MC-kun, lower the bar and give him something he can bite". Which was done with the mob, but giving him le big hurt simply added more medical bills for this mf. On this point, my whole critique is that letting Null come out on top, not necessarily unscathed but in way better shape than he was, would've felt better imo.

And here I was just describing what usually happens in shonen logic. I know this story is shonen enough already.

To be completely honest with you, TNH keeping tabs of your actions to torture you later with them would be completely on point and fit perfectly within the context.

You mischevious son of a bitch, i have a feeling of where things are going with her, and i assure you, my Null will NOT lose the shonen energy.
Objectively the best bit of Hero Music in anime in years.

Don't come at me with that Giorno shit, I know what I'm saying.

Though I cheerfully admit to writing half the stuff I do with the intent of making the reader depressed. Makes the lighter moments that much brighter.
