if dev delivers I'll smack your balls
First, you'll have a hard time finding balls on me, because I have ovaries… Second, I work for a software company, and if I were to take more than 15 days to present progress on a project, I'd be in trouble.

What never ceases to amaze me about this site is the general level of naiveté.

From believing that developers have real jobs and that they only do this for fun, as a hobby, or out of pure need for expression, to believing, when they say they take a break of 1 or 2 months, and some brainless idiot even says they take a break of 3 or 6 months because of exhaustion or illness… Well, in real life, that doesn't happen, neither when you work as an employee nor when you work for yourself. In real life, if for some stupid reason you decide to do something like that for more than 5 days, you lose money, clients, and your job. If you don't believe me, just wait until you have a real job and you'll see.

So developers have a job, and they do this for art… What can I say? It's very simple… An artist who can't make a living from their art might work at something else, but expression is what matters most—being able to communicate what they want to communicate. This applies to painters, sculptors, architects, writers, and so on. And if they can't support themselves with it, they do it for free until they become known. If you open an account to receive deposits, it's because you're making a living from it. It's not art, it's not expression, it's not sharing… That's called profiting. And that's what I don't understand about developers. Why are they ashamed to admit they make a living from this?

You're mixing up your 9 to 5 expectations with someone else's hobby project. The dev doesn't owe you sprint reports, roadmaps, or a corporate level SLA for something they release for free in their spare time.

Patreon, and similar platforms are literally designed so fans can optionally tip or support creators, including pure hobbyists, nothing about opening a tip jar magically turns their side project into your paid service job. If you choose to pay and then "complain" because the dev doesn't work on your schedule, that is on you.

Peoples lives change, jobs, families, burnout, health and passion projects naturally move up and down the priority list. Acting like "real life" means everyone must grind nonstop on a free project just because you are impatient is exactly the naivety you're accusing others of.

There is also the possibility that things go wrong, people feel ashamed, people might be introverts, so on so forth. Prostochel has been very active in communicating what is going on so i cannot understand this level of dissatisfaction coming from you.

First, regarding my confusion about what's expected of a job, you're the one who's wrong… I don't expect a developer to report on the reality of a corporation's work… And if I were going to publish for free, I wouldn't have opened an account to receive money… Free is free… You produce something for which you don't expect financial compensation. That's your first misinterpretation.

Second, I have no problem paying for a job, or giving a tip to a beggar… But I don't confuse one thing with the other. That's your second mistake.

Third, my life also has its ups and downs, just like yours and the developers', and I certainly don't work nonstop, otherwise I wouldn't be responding to you… We all have times of the day when we work and times of the day when we relax, but when I'm working, I'm working and I'm not asking for tips. That's your third misinterpretation, of my opinion and your view of the developers who publish on this site. It goes without saying that we already clarified that the project ceased to be free the moment a bank account was opened to receive money, and even more so when those who pay are given privileges over those who don't.

And fourth, and finally, I'm not dissatisfied with the work of some developers and the naivety of consumers… I'm disappointed by so much hypocrisy.

why would you consider that anyone has to fit your expectations? this is a gooning site with gooners, i don't see why anyone would try and follow your view. just because you do something in a particular manner doesn't mean it should be adopted to everyone, no? it's fair to provide criticism but a level of understanding should also be there that people aren't going to meet your expectations and for your own sake you shouldn't expect much of others, especially on the internet. and just fyi everything everyone does here is mostly optional, he releases and works on the game optionally, people support him optionally and your and mine comment was also literally optional. no one is forced to do anything so why expect anything? i think a bit of stoicism would do wonders for others and your own sake.

Fifth misinterpretation. At no point did I imply that I expect others to meet my expectations; I only expressed my opinion. Everything you wrote afterward is just a product of your imagination.

Building a better market would require the participation of everyone, if all the peoples would stopped funding ponzi scheme we would have quality, but this is not the world we're living in.

Peoples are content with what they have right now, as they do with all things, they settle for comfort and keeping the status quo, in fear of losing what little they have, we live among mindless cattle, preaching here will give you no satisfaction.

Not a job, not begging: patronage. Patronage is optional, if you don't like it, don't participate. No soapbox required. We're going in circles, so this is my last reply on the topic.

This is the equivalent of saying that listening to buskers isn't free because they have a hat you can put money into, and if you do then you get to request a song, or saying Fortnite isn't free because you can buy paid cosmetics. Nothing in this world is free, everything at least costs you time, and it's frankly insane in this day and age to expect somebody to do game development even as a hobby and not at least set up a patreon to accept donations. Whether you like it or not, that does not make this a paid product, this game is factually and inarguably free. If you want to be kept 100% up to date with the progress reports, that's not free, you have to pay for that. Just because the devs posts progress reports for those who choose to spot them some cash does not mean this game suddenly costs you anything more than your time.

Dev has shown no behavior that makes them seem untrustworthy, I do not understand why you're crashing out over scummy and/or slow devs.
What a smell of lies I'm getting... I hope what I'm smelling isn't another developer who only works 20 days a year!!!
Oh wait, no, it's the naivety of people on here.
What never ceases to amaze me about this site is the general level of naiveté.
Oh wait, no, it's general hypocrisy now.

If you're going to soapbox at people, at least stick to your guns instead of moving the goalposts so much you end up knocking yourself out with them. The moment you can be quoted as saying you're not making the exact argument you started with, you've already fucked yourself and nobody will or should pay any attention to a damn thing you say past that point.

This concludes my ted talk, thank y'all for coming. I will not be responding to this any further, just had to get my two cents in here real quick.
