I think it's fair to say that the queen and princess are completely dysfunctional, with the only nice one being the king. Mostly understandable (wouldn't call it forgivable though) considering the life the queen probably led before she married the king. The queen's side of the family seemed to be both paranoid and vindictive.
The queen probably wanted to make sure her daughter was competent enough to handle the political minefield she was going to inherit, but the methods she's using are the reason the princess is so messed up. The queen was probably physically and mentally abusive to the princess from the moment the princess could walk. And while it probably came from a place of love, it started a cycle of abuse that the princess passes on to others, like Colette (who then passes it on to you) and anybody else she can boss around. The queen is definitely nicer to you since you're technically supposed to be a temporary solution and she believes she doesn't have to get as "rough" with you (yet).
Both the queen and the princess are going to have to fix their relationship if the MC is going to get out of this mess.
