I think it's safe to say, dumbed down story is not bad entirely. We have much more content with that path, not the blueball games like the kind that we can come across around here too much and most of them don't even have a good story. Think about the gangbang scene for a second, if we had so called "slow paced" game it would probably need a bajillion updates to reach that point. True to that. The ( main ) premise of this game is not realistic and ( sometimes ) illogical
but that doesn't mean the players cannot or will not enjoy it. After all, it is a 'fantasy' fiction that is still grounded to our perceived reality at least.IMO this game is porny adult game, where basically lewd is the focus, story is secondary. Story or plot is primarily to move from one lewd scene to the next. The story ( dumb down, shallow or whatever ) still required, without any story at all, the game basically just a Gallery Scene Replay.
But yeah, just do what you do best, Trash_Panda without being too much concerned about what he said she said, but at the same time do listen to the feedbacks and reactions of the playerbase. It is a tough balancing act but I believe you can find the sweet spot. Cheers.

It'll be a while, he's working on an update for Esra atm (according to Patreon). I'm guessing anywhere from 3-5 month or so.

I thought Ren'Py was only a platform/engine? Think what editing programs ect. Could be wrong though.
