After meeting North man whatever his name was, game gives you two choices 1. Tell everything to Boss
2. Tell megan first
If you choose tell everything to boss then the ending will appear

The stories are fairly isolated, so it isn't a requirement.

That said, I'd encourage it, since it sets the backdrop of the universe, and there are recurring characters. Despite the timeline order of VC -> Moving Down -> Ren, Moving Down is the one to play first.
