Ransomware are very dangerous viruses that are capable of encrypting all your files and demanding a ransom in exchange for them. They can spread through the network and infect all your devices. Some types of ransomware are undetectable and self-destruct, They can even attack your BIOS, making your computer unusable.
Precisely. I remember the early days of the internet when surfing for porn could leave a bunch of nasties on your PC. Today is no different. More and more nefarious websites are cropping up all of the time. Now more than ever, users must protect themselves or suffer the consequences.

This is why I run my Sims 4 installation (and other Windows games) in a on Linux. This and all running processes cannot access the internet nor have access to system files. Even if my installation were to get hit with ransomware, it would only affect the container it runs in; WHICH can be easily purged and replaced with a backup in minutes. Try the links in this post if you are feeling ambitious.

I forgot to mention: In addition to virus scanners, it might be a good idea to use a browser with privacy and anti malware features built-in, moreover using a VPN with advanced kill-switch features will also hide your web activity from your ISP and make it harder for criminals to attack your home network. Enable the firewall in your home router! It is better to have multiple protections in place, especially if you are using an OS as vulnerable as Windows. I ditched Microsoft almost 2 decades ago as I found Linux to be superior in terms of functionality and security.

It's not all bad news, at least your mods folder will be safe and your personal information will not be sold on the deep web for 3 dollars. :)
I am afraid it will NOT be all "ponies and rainbows" as you described. You see, Patreon developers CAN see your email address and generate lists which may be sold to third parties. So while they profit from the pr0n SPAM in your mailbox, you can rest in the comfort of knowing that your MOD folder is safe only if you access the internet using a bootable usb stick with BSD or Linux installed on it. Deep web hackers will not pay anything for information but big tech corporations will gladly purchase it for huge sums of money.

Today's service announcement is: "If you did not pay anything to use the service, YOU ARE THE PRODUCT!"

If you have not noticed, I fall into the DEFECTIVE PRODUCT category.... HA HA HA

Hmmm...

First, you trust a hacker who offers you paid mods for free? Free? Really? Do you think Santa Claus delivers mods or that the Easter Bunny hides cracks in eggs?

Second, you're worried about an official content creator seeing your email, but you hand over your soul (and your information) to a hacker without even blinking. It's like jumping off a cliff hoping to land on a soft mattress.

Third, you think hackers don't sell your information because it's not worth their while. Oh, my sweet friend! The deep web is a black market where your personal information is sold like hotcakes.

In short, your argument is illogical, dangerous, and with a predictably disastrous ending.
