This months update brings the first part of the needs system, thirst. From now your character will need to drink water to survive. In the prologue water is not particularly scarce so it will not be too hard to get enough but latter on it may become a challenge.

This update implements base systems around water need. Characters can now drink from water sources around the game world, there is a first water vessel that can be used to carry water and there is also a bladder which needs to empty occasionally.

These represent just the first block of the needs system so it is implemented loosely in this build. It will depend on the next block for more dramatic effects so in this build it will not be directly deadly. For now it will just limit your stamina if you don't drink any water.

Need to empty the bladder is also loosely implemented until next month.

Water flask is old and ruined. It has no cap and you must carry it in your hand. it can be filled by just dunking it in water or if you use the drink command while standing in water with empty flask the character will fill it. Drink command while in water without the flask makes the character drink using hands. In this build most water sources are ok to drink but that will also change in the next build. Drink and pee commands are temporary also and will be implemented differently(They are 1 and 2 keys).

Apart from that this build redesigns parts of the world and adds more dynamic objects. Mostly it should make the game run much smoother, especially on weaker machines for it implements a new method of optimizing the world and will allow the planed scope.

This build also fixes a bunch of smaller issues, polishes the movement system further and fixes few bugs.

But apart from the first needs block most important is the performance update so please let me know if you noticed some changes on your hardware for I can only test on so many machines.

But this crap utilizing 49(31 ram + 18 pagefile) gigs of memory just in main menu!

It seems to run slightly better than before but the menu/intro audio still ear rapes you and changes to the brightness settings still won't save (at least for me).

Edit: Your character also has significantly more fake momentum outside of your control, completely irrelevant to whatever direction you were moving. Vaulting is broken and will kill you. Also, the canteen doesn't save with you, so when you inevitably die, you're SOL.

Edit 2: The fake momentum has to go, period. Your character just gets locked walking into a random direction with none of your inputs working until you stop pressing anything a good few seconds. On top of that, I outright alt+f4'd in the mushroom cave with the roaches. Having a "bumrush through the enemies after you lose your weapon" section in a physics game where your character autonomously decides to slow down or walk in random directions is beyond infuriating.

This game is poorly optimised, my PC can't run 30FPS stably at 4K (9800X3D 32G RAM 9070XT), I might not renew my subscription next month, 10 dollars is a bit expensive for me (I live in China and don't have an international credit card, currently subscribing with a US card bought from a third party, which might be illegal and the developers might not actually get the payment).

Hi, happy holidays!

This months update is coming more or less on time :) and it is a bit of a clean up. My plans for this one were changed a bit by your feedback. Last months update did some GPU optimization that as it turns out wasn't enough so this months original plans took a back seat to some serious focus on optimization and fixing.

The biggest part of this update is implementation of upscaling systems. From this 1.07 update the game has DLSS4, FSR3 and XESS2 support which should cover most of your hardware. So please make sure to go into video settings and pick your desired upscaling quality level before playing it. There are 5 quality levels available (Ultra quality, Quality, Balanced, Performance and Ultra performance). Depending on your GPU the system will automatically select the best available upscaling algorithm and upscaling quality level of it will be set according to your selection.

Apart from that there was some major CPU optimization done on the collision system, particle systems and fluid simulation. Some parts of the code had to be redone but the new approach made everything run much smoother.

With these two things The Way alpha 1.07 runs with 40-70% more FPS on our test machines compared to the previous version. And that is without looking any worse than before, on lower end machines it looks a lot better. Please let me know how it is doing on your configuration.

And this is not all. Some of the biggest issues are fixed in this one.

The notorious few steps after climbing should not happen any more. This was the worst bug judging by your comments and it was surprisingly hard to squash but it is done. Sliding system has also been tuned up significantly so it should be much more pleasant to climb around the map.

Some issues were also fixed around drinking system and the flask. Few issues with the camera are also fixed. Crawling camera position has been changed with more intuitive crawling direction. Some sound issues were also fixed and waterfalls audio has been made less realistic but much more pleasant. There were some minor graphical issues introduced with last months GPU optimization that are also fixed in this build.

All this will make the game much smoother and much more pleasant experience.

With all that there was really not much time left for the next brick of the needs system but a big part of it is already done so the next update shouldn't take till the end of next month but it will take a couple of weeks.

The game is very interesting, I'm playing version 1.07 and a big patch is expected to be released in February 1.08.
