For anyone still having this issue - I was able to make it work using 7zip with the following command: 7z x -mcp=932 archive.zip
I've tried inputting 7z x -mcp=932 "D:\Downloads\TheWayHome-1.0.7z" through command prompt but it returns a "Cannot open the file as archive" error. Any solutions?

There are images that are just not in the gallery, even though they're in the game, and I think that's a shame.

Extract the game with WinRar using the CRTL+E function to select EXTRACT IN JAPANESE, if you don't the game won't be able to load assets properly.

This is a general rule whenever you see garbled language when you try to extract a game in here.
This needs to be put in the OP directly next to where the downloads are, every time I get a notification for this thread I hope it's news on the dev's other games but it's always just another person asking the same question that's been asked 100 times already

It's been a while, at this point I'm more amused than anything.
this does not work. opened winrar, clicked "932 ansi/oem japanese shift jis", clicked save current, clicked extract to, pasted it and overwrote the files in the game. still shows the error.

Overwriting isn't enough, delete the game folder (except for the save) and re-extract it completely.

Your TheWayHome-1.0.7z seems pretty weird (not the same name as i got from the workupload link), but you can try:
Bash:
$ LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 7z x ~/downloads/The_Way_Home_RJ01008367.zip
or add -sccUTF-8 such as
Bash:
$ LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 7z x -sccUTF-8 ~/downloads/The_Way_Home_RJ01008367.zip

P.S. LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 works for me on my Linux machine, there is no need for -sccUTF-8. You can check this for more information about extracting Shift-JIS (932 codepage) using 7zip.

[UPDATE] The patch below is for the Original release of the game. If you have downloaded the Sinister Night version that is translated. THIS PATCH WILL NOT WORK.

Playing through Sinister night I can see the game has been translated in full so I will not be updating the patch.

I will leave this up in case someone wants to use the patch but besides that. Game on

Here is an update for the Asset Translation. All the GUI information like what the buttons do, missions, and credit titles were translated. I left the majority of the ingame Japanese intact (given she is in Japan). I moved one of the direction selection in the bedroom over to allow for more space for the graphic.

I also decensored all the pictures with censorship. Most were pretty simple except for the two which were discussed.

Simply over-write the files in the game folder (www folder) and good to go.

Suggestions open for changes/improvements

And final note, I found that there was a typo in the translation; so I fixed it.
