Dev has managed all of this so poorly. Obviously he had decided to switch to another game, so what's the point on asking about it? And moreover, ignoring the vote of the majority

All he needed to say was "Tides is not financially sustainable for me, so I need to switch to an (I hope) more profitable game". Sure, there would be frustration, but I guess pretty much everybody would understand.

The way he managed things he "achieved" frustration and being labelled as untrustworthy.

A pity... Tides was a real hidden gem.

Ok I see so much hypocrisy in this thread its insane I am not going to comment if the devs decision is the right one or not because honestly only he will know since it is his life and a choice that he has to make for himself and not for anybody else, but what I do know is I find it sort of pathetic to see all of this bitching and moaning about this game getting put on hold when it was making little to no money through its life time that means that almost none of you were supporting it and downloading it for free if its so good like you guys claim it to be why didn't you support it?

The gall of some of you to insult the dev over his decision of trying to make a more marketable game over a niche game that while good nobody was paying for is absolutely insane and lets face it no matter how generic, bad or not to your taste you might think this new college game will be I can guaranteed you that it will at the very least make more money then what ever Tides of Succession has made or will ever make, to me it just seems like a lot of you are not only salty over the decision of the dev but also just super selfish like lets face it none of you really care about his future you guys just want him to continue this game because most of you like it so cut the bullshit and be honest.
Well, he is totally free to make the decisions he wants, and people are totally free to criticize him if they are invested in his original game.

He's the second developer in recent times that I've seen make this kind of decision, and in both cases, I think it's an awful one. I understand and can sympathize with wanting to earn more money for the work you are putting in, especially when your life reaches a point where you really need that money, or you need to commit to your studies or a real job. However, when a developer makes this decision, they are creating ill will with the people that supported them or wanted to support them. No matter how many years pass, they will probably always be remembered as an untrustworthy developer who abandoned their first game, especially if they run into problems with their second one.

So, while I understand that he needs his project to make much more money to be viable, I would rather he had taken a much slower approach until he finished his first game. With this decision, he will always carry the reputation of a developer who abandoned his first project, which I don't think will help him grow enough for this to be sustainable.

Pretty shocked to see the abandon tag and very disappointed. So the dev went from cutting all the paths to make it simpler, to now basically "abandoning" the game (Yes, I know he said he would come back but how true will that be actually) for some College based avn, like we don't already have 100 others of those.

Just a absolute letdown, this game had great girls like Lorelei and Glade, now we get new game, with girls who don't even look as good as those two, that the dev may just decide to abandon too, if it doesn't make money. You can't make games based on money, it should be passion.

Just very let down, cause this game is dead, and no matter how much he says he will come back, thats hard to believe. Just very sad. Death of a great game.:(

Well...Did anyone have saves of the different routes at the end of the current release ? Don't want to even bother playing it now, juste watch the lewd scenes and put it in the trash.

Disappointed. Exchanging Lorelei and Glade for run of the mill college avn, where even on the first glance I like only two girls(blonde one and potentially the last black haired girl).

What a let down.

I dropped Tides as Ch3 came out (I didn't play the update) as I realised I just wasn't looking forward to playing each update when it dropped, but I was going to check in on it after a few updates and see how it was getting on once it was more established.

I might have missed something though, in the "not commerically viable" argument, as I didn't think this was a focus of the dev. The game was being released to the public on day one, if you want Patreon subscribers and want to grow and potentially make enough to make a living from this, you can't do that, surely. Not too many are going to subscribe to the Patreon if it doesn't even get them the game "early", they might as well just join on a free membership to get the dev logs and the notification of the update being released, then download it for free like everyone else.

The sensible option, IMO, would have been to introduce a typical dev structure for Tides (like outlined for the potential new game), and see how that goes, as that would be the test as to the commerical viability of the game. People aren't going to pay for something they can get for free at the same time, from the same place!

Now that the fairy tale is over, I’d like to share my thoughts too.
First off - somehow I already had a hunch about how this would end, even before today’s news. Understandable, I guess.

Even though I didn’t vote (since I believe it should ultimately be Tak’s decision), I have to admit - the final outcome left me really disappointed, as expected.
Somebody mentioned Tak ignoring the majority vote. To me, though, it looked more like he used the poll as just one part of the bigger picture when making a decision, rather than relying on it completely.

It’s not the 1st time either. I still remember canon path drama that led to the poll. Back then, majority (around 70%) voted to keep the canon path as intended - myself included. But Tak still changed it. I was a supporter at that point, but after that I actually started having doubts. Not a fan when Devs start bending or altering their own vision just to cater to vocal groups. Some minor stuff - ok, but not canon story events.
I think I actually dropped subscription after another change - when the 3some path was added. Since then, the game has gone through a few significant shifts (paths deletion, lewds), and in the end, it felt like it started losing its original charm. Not saying it’s good or bad - it just is what it is.

Anyways, that’s just my humble opinion of course.

That said, despite everything, I still loved the game. And Lorelei… damn. One of my favourite Lis in AVNs.
Also, credit where it’s due - Tak was always consistent and productive, I mean ~1000 renders per month (as was already noted) is insane compared to many games. Unfortunately, softcore romance just doesn’t sell as well these days compared to pure fuckfests.

So, good luck with the new project! Personally though, I won’t be part of it, either as a player or supporter. Don’t want to get disappointed again when another story ends the same way.

P.S. Apologies for my probably gibberish english from time to time, still drinking my morning coffee :)

I think that's the biggest takeaway here... the trust is gone for me this time completely.
No matter what he does from this point on, it will be a losing situation for him.
If at some point in the future he has delays with his new game, the community will remind him of this game, he is starting a new game while destroying all the goodwill he had with his community which in turn will hurt his Patreon numbers at least initially.

Finding out this game was supposed to be a softcore romance was the biggest whiplash for me. You can still have proper romance and show explicit sex scenes. That decision itself is a major red flag.

that was fucking unexpected.. what a disaster.. If dev truly aiming for quick money - AI/NTS/NTR/phone texting, futa or gay/furry games. Why the hell making again vanilla avn if you already have a very good one?

Right now you are not believable as a dev, you can't guarantee new project also won't end in abandoned land. People don't forget this and won't throw money again for uncertain future of the new game

Instead of making rash decisions first you should invest into cross promotions and generally marketing to promote your avn

I'm just sad it is/was a good game. With no-rush for the sex scene. Take the time for explain the plots.
Don't get me wrong, I'm also heartbroken about Tides of Succession, but I'm just happy he's

Giving game development a chance, we need more story-driven visual novels with Romance

If I have to play one more horny dumbass Haram MC, I'm going to kill myself.
