But youre subsribing to a dev/artist for a specific case the artist himself announced aka developing a product which you get access to in exchange for your support. Its way closer to a buisness than to a hobby if you reach certain dimensions and the finance authority of your country will view it as such too and you will have to pay taxes accordingly.

To call it a tipping jar is simply wrong
this is why if was a dev and did have one id disclose I see it as a tip / donation and only have 1 tier , that way everyone gets the same thing. Cause once you open up other tiers and offer other rewards it starts to be closer to a business imo even if I personally don't see it as one still but I can understand why others do.

A tip jar is exactly what it is. It means a person is working on a project and you tip them because you show interest

Nah, are you 12 or something? Its really not hard to comprehend.

And usually youre giving a tip for a service you received to appreciate the effort. With patreon the service is tied to giving the dev money for the service in the first place otherwise you lose access. The amount and/or timeframe even differs depending on how much youre paying.

A donation would be the equivalent to a tip, a subsciption is not.

If all devs (or other patreon artists) would have your mindset, patreon would be dead and there would be WAY less avns around at this point.

So, you get the money but take no responsibility for finishing the project? Remind me never to subscribe to a Patreon of yours with that mentality.
Exactly you're not paying for a finished project. You're giving them money because you appreciateit

When you subscribe to an artist you are paying for the already completed project of of a art piece. You are not paying for an already completed game. You're giving them money in hopes that they don't abandon the project. I frankly don't see how a "donation" is any different from a subscription for a avn on patreon

I seriously doubt you have ever subscribed to someone, but I will stop this discussion here because its going offtopic.
I hope there are no devs thinking like you because that's very disrespectful to people that keep their subscriptions every month if they only see their works as something they can abandon anytime with no regards to their subscribers.

Patreon is a donation service, that's what it actually says on the site. Many devs have free public releases of their games and subscriptions are mostly just for early access and to show personal interest, rather than actually buying the game itself. If the ultimate goal is to release a game on steam and sell it there then in those cases subscription on patreon is more like a personal investment like kickstarter is. But I wouldn't treat it the same as a magazine subscription. If it is like a magazine subscription than that's even more reason to completely abandon a game if the developer things it's not making enough money.

Sad to see ToS go. It was interesting, unlike literally all the College clones.

So it wasnt received as good as he imagined and he will think everything over again and now he goes on a month long holiday?

Man i really like the dev but his decision making is among the worst lol, he should just have taken the time until after his holidays to consider everything carefully

Always having all these grand plans just to entirely scrap them immediatly again and again makes his characters/stories feel very shallow and meaningless. I already noticed that i barely got myself to care for the characters in the alpha, it kinda meta breaks my immersion at this point lol

Yeah, IDK why he's shifted focus. Like, if the following he's gained up to this point was primarily for Tides of Succession, why shift over to something totally different? That's like Beyoncé deciding that country music would be her thing. No, it really isn't your thing, "queen". Ofc, the biggest difference here is that TakMycket isn't even close to a Beyoncé in the AVN space. So the dev's decision is like 500 times worse than a huge pop star going country out of the blue.

Imo its fineiiish to scrap a relatively new game if a dev intends to earn money with it and it doesnt really work if hes communicating openly about it which was the case here.

But he already scrapped 2 projects at this points and now seems unhappy with his third and at this point it becomes almost comical. I cant help but feel like he has unreasonable expectations at himself and at the money he could/should earn.

And he doesnt seem to really comprehend how valuable "trust" is when its a patreon based project which are supposed to be supported for like at least 4-6 years at least.

It would be dishonest and involve the risk to be uncovered but at this point it would probably best for him to just start over with a new name when he scraps the new idea too lol

Sorry for the negativity Tak, but youre decisions are utterly strange imo

While I can see your point with this, I can't say I agree. It's a trend I've seen all too often among just normal writers (potential novelists are most often plagued by it, as you might expect). If you're willing to abandon one project, even if it's not giving you the success you want, you're much more prone to giving up on future projects when something about them doesn't meet your expectations. Hell, it's the entire reason why something like NaNoWriMo exists. Just getting it out is huge for ultimate completion and for improvement over time. It's called growth as an artist: you finish something, even if total crap, so you at least can learn all you can from it. Read some early stuff by Lovecraft or Hemingway or Steinbeck. Even though they aren't great in comparison, they saw them through nevertheless, grew as writers, and eventually published amazing things.

Well, shit. I won't be trying anything by this dude again. A lot of these new devs are the same, I should've expected it. I'll be crossing this dev off my list unless he gets his ass back to work and finishes this.

Yeah, you tell him. I'm sure that was very motivating for him.
