Being brutally honest... that's literally one of the stupidest things I've heard. (not the last sentence though, that much is true).
Development is over when the dev says it's finished.
Main characters/story being done doesn't magically mean people won't play the next update given.
Actually finishing it and having made halfway decent content, makes the players want more not less, they'll then play the side content, and want an epilogue (a smart dev would make said epilogue, or even a sequel).
The funniest part of all this... is that people are borderline starving for a dev they can trust and throw money at.
Problem is, they've been burned too many times, so now it actually requires effort to gain their trust instead of just saying "I will do X content only" because so many have said that, and turn around betraying that trust (after taking their money too).
Just seems that very few devs want to be that well trusted, too much ego involved. Which is hilarious since most are rookies, and have just gotten into development, but already have an ego...
Like bruv, ego is supposed to be after you've made a bunch of shit, completed it, and it does well. But dudes be having an ego over a 1.0 that should really be called 0.000.1, that's 5min of content stretched out into 2hrs cause of grind.
And even then, you wouldn't go around flexing your ego onto the people actually caring about and playing the game... you use it as an energy source to then work more on the game.
You use energy whenever you do anything, spend it wisely... says me wasting it on this comment in an f95 thread...
