Chairs should be leather and a little distressed - maybe the kind with brass tacks around the frame. The velvet Elvis sounds amusing, but not necessary; however, a taxidermy squirrel from one of his favorite granddaughters would be a nice touch.

Maybe he's a vet and has a shadowbox on the wall with his medals, and maybe a momento or two, from the Korean "Police Action" and he can gripe about fighting in the one that ended in a draw, but at least he didn't have to be in the one that was lost. And a VFW hat on the desk. Has to have a VFW hat if he's a vet of that age.
Or one with the head, but the paws are over it's mid-section where MS hit him. Or possibly where his nuts used to be because MS was particularly cruel that day.
Add some stuffed kills, like a squirrel or fox, make the chairs leather, and maybe an extra gun on the wall and I've been in this living room a time or two.
