There is a camp in this game, but there is no place to rest... A shower, a bed, a cup of coffee, the basic details of the sandbox. Just going on missions without being able to sit on a bench and smoke a cigarette after a long raid is unfair.

I used to support the dev back when this game was younger. Playing the demo now I am a bit disappointed with the state of the game. iirc the dev lives in Russia so they probably have to deal with that (both now because of Putin's war and also just in general living in Russia), but still. Why does it seem like the game has regressed? There used to be custom trap animations for the bear traps and now they all play the same cut to black struggle animation. Why don't animations flow into one another? Idk.

Horn is a mad lad who also experiments around with Always-online-DRM-shite and literally rickrolling people left and right while constantly restructuring the very soul of the game, adding here, taking away there and coming up with some insanity in-between, while Shine stays true to the game's roots, silently tweaking and polishing
I believe public versions were "drm"-free and as for the patreon versions - it's his right to do so (he even stated that complete version won't have any drm-shite). Rickrolling these who trying to play patreon version for free ?
The soul of the game has never been reconstructed It's pretty much the same. Adding and removing things are part of the development, and by far Horn added much more then he removed.
And it's not even about soul or roots it's about progress of the development

I never disputed his rights, Kurt, I said he looks to me (Talking in broad generalisations here, and very subjectively) like the 'Mad Scientist' archetype. Shine, on the other hand, I would describe as much more of the 'Quiet Artist' type.
Of course the changes the former type employs in his work are more glamorous and more obvious at first glance, but also more radical, in that they do carry with them the risk that one day, they might be so radical that the whole work suddenly goes into a direction that is not subjectively interesting anymore.
That risk I do not see with TML, because the changes Shine employs are more subtle (Compare the grabbing QTEs, for example - it does look and feel more polished in the latest Preview, in my opinion, and going back to earlier versions does feel different). The changes might not be as 'in yo face' as those in Yuna, or as manifold, but they are there, and I appreciate them.
I also have no monetary stake in either project, so I look at the updates without the dollar-tinted 'They should have used the time I bought them more efficiently!!1!' lenses that so many employ - consciously or unconsciously, justifiedly or unjustifiedly, that is a different discussion.

In the end, both Yuna and Too much Light are projects worthy of our esteemed time and bodily fluids, but both devs work at their pace and in their respective style. Which are not really comparable to each other, as are the games.
If an update feels too lackluster or empty, maybe 'tis our expectations which we should really think about.

And it's not even about soul or roots it's about progress of the development
Au contraire, mon ami, 'tis .
