Has to be years without an update before it gets abandoned tag. 9 months is nowhere near enough for this forum. (Teasers don't count as content.) There are many games that haven't updated in over a year with minimal contact from the dev that aren't listed as abandoned.

A year? You can already draw the conclusion from whether their payment platform (Patreon, itch etc.) profile is inactive or deleted

18 months even if there is activity on Patreon and other platform stating that the project is advancing. And even if there are no leaked version here in those 18 months if a version was distributed somewhere to someone and it is known the project will still not be labeled as abandoned. Way less without activity, two or three months. And here there is activity like ippotimmo just mentioned.

I have never seen a game get labeled abandoned after 2-3 months and have literally been a part of requesting a game to get labeled abandoned after close to two years without an update, which suddenly made an update appear. So while your timeline may be a "general rule of thumb" it is by no means universal. Just ask the Katalist or ToT communities about update gaps.

Also I stand by the statement that teasers don't count as content.

It's not a "rule of thumb", it's an official rule of the forum: 18 months of no game update or 3 months of no activity/communication. It's not always enforced with the impartiality it should be but it's in the rules.
