It looks like an option which is given to you... but basically you cannot progress with the rest of the game without that.
The early game felt quite different compared to how it ended up, so I would not be surprised that was once meant as a divergence point of sort.

In the start i tought i was playing a bi-sexual fantasy game, but its more like a lesbian haunted mansion thing
I have a problem with a quest, I gave Faylen to the ghosts but now the ghost in the cave needs a body, according to the comments it is Liam but I have no idea where to find him, he does not appear in his room or the temple
Outfit option unlocked from specific friendship events when their control is most dominant over Celica's body.
One is from Nel (pic related) and twin-tails from the ghost pirates. If you don't have them then simply keep going further down their event chain.

Okay, so how does the Mystic Fox shrine actually work?
I spent about a week in game resting, there was no change to the body ownership values.
I spent about a week straight fighting, there was no change to the body ownership values.
I've spent a few minutes just having Celica just orgasm, no changes.
The week fighting? I've tried the slimes, the bees, the anubis fellahs, the ice golems.
The week resting Celica's home.
It seems that getting the body's original owner's share to increase, is done by a metric i just don't know, increasing other people's metric is easy as piss just do anything that takes time.
Edit: This was also tested using maximum supression tags on one of the body's most domiant share owenrs, and then three on the second most with 0 on the others.

If all events completed, then approximately half of Celica's body proficiency would belong to Nel, about a fifth would belong to Glace, and a very small portion would belong to Violet. And unfortunately, this value cannot be dampen with talismans.
For Celica yeah, i saw that, but for other characters their values too were static and didn't decrease when i did testing too.
Galiene was also being kept an eye on, and her ratio didn't shift.
I guess some characters just have permanent unchangeable %s, which honestly does make the talismans feel a bit odd since even if you want a certain character to be the primary body owner, you can't.

Galiene and Liam (the Celestian hero whom the muscular piratesse took for herself) have the same fixed body proficiency. I'm sure someone else does too, but I haven't noticed.

I mostly use talismans on Celica, as the number of talismans on her affects the frequency and variety of events with the body possessors.
