LOL 23 chapters for a payoff is quite long. However there is a use and need for delayed gratification. I guess it's tantamount to edging the reader. Personally I don't like stories that start off with the two (or more) characters boning and then transitions into a flashback or telling of how it all started. If it works for others great, but I feel like it robs the story of any tension and build up because you already know what's going to happen. However you aren't wrong, progress has to be shown sooner than later and 23 chapters later is too long in my book. I haven't actually read the story so these "chapters" could actually be scenes which alters the conversation some.

Five days of unanswered calls and texts, of desperate pleas sent into a void. Five days of alternating between crushing guilt and defensive justification. Five days of sleeping on the couch because she couldn’t bear to enter the bedroom where Jacob had discovered her betrayal.
Nope, but my deduction apparently holds..."Something's Off" by GetBugged also has not listed a new chapter for the same length of time that Kemono has been inactive. That author was incredibly good about getting his chapters out and now 14 days of nothing. Could both activities be run by the same person??? Wondering minds wonder.
I don't mind a retroactive scene or even going back to the past to show or explain what happened to get to that moment, and then moving forward.
What bothers me the most is when the story goes back and forth from the past many times.

Got busy with life but I really liked the true throuple idea
But silver is really putting off his imagination here and padding it for jis readers
So much to do and explore here including the fact Lester sleeping with the couple on the same bed. They going on dates with lots of humiliation for Dan
But Dan as a character has really regressed so far. He ain't even in the game forget about playing it.
