Artix0 Sadly this is the hard part of doing MTL translation with human intervention since uh I ran that text (as I usually do) through , , , before using ChatGPT as a last resort to really confirm/grammerfy it (because of it's TOS bugging out responses and other problems ) but none of them gave that translation. But that's why I use multiple and try to take the other text entries as context along with the sprites and names because I know that MTL is an annoying thing to deal with and you can't trust it haphazardly. I did try to incorporate , and in to my translation process but found only Jisho to be useful but best used when really stuck as I was with Warlord Tartarus to try and look at individual words rather than whole sentences. Which for that example I figured out the meaning without using it.

With the text formatting, sadly I get the following where while I do get the X and Y but testing it is another thing due to the common sprite pallete/window being for all sprites that aren't permenant in the stage levels. (I did suspect that those had something to do with it so thank you for confirming that)

That's why I think I need to check in to see if Tragic had mentioned it as I get vague thoughts that they did. But regardless testing will reveal if there's spirtes that need the adjustment which I'll find then and adjust as a result since hopefully I'll have an vague idea of which one in the list of 483 sprites they are and if not then the stage file. (Though I believe the stage files have been checked already) Also some text is floating instead of in the window'ed text box as you showed in your example. (but most are in the text box)

I just realized also the text I posted and such has been the wrong translation text that I actually used....I've now corrected that since I took it from the wrong text entry. In my head I had it right....

Translation progress update for 7th: Bad news I would have finished today no seriously. As technically I've done sprite 483 in terms of looking through it and the previous sprites...however I simply ran out of time to do the translating of sprites 479,481-483 since they are all Merc/Followers with their own conversations making it so I couldn't copy and paste to finish them only to do half the work needed which is why I've run out of time. (I have less than 6 hours to sleep/prep for something I have later that can't be missed)
But I can say for sure though that my next update will be where I can move on to the play-testing stage where I'll also have to attempt to find and translate anything missed....presuming it's something that can be translated and isn't engine hard coded. It will mean that daily updates will probably go silent however I'll post updates from time to time which I'll go into in my next update since as I said I am already short on time.

I can finally use this though*:

*As it's the end of this stage of the translation project.

9 Days remain to the self-imposed deadline, 4 sprites remain of the 483, 0.4 sprites a day to finish on time.

Rixen keep in mind the chances of missing something that needs to be translated are high due to the pure amount of possible places for text to exist in this game....which I'll have to find during the play test stage that honestly will miss stuff because from what I've seen purely from the common sprite stuff, there's several small things you can do that changes what characters say else where. (they can also be extremely specific things too)
Plus anything that is missed will then have to be hunted for of whatever contained it to then attempt to translate it.
So I honestly wouldn't expect an release within the next 3 months since I haven't played the game myself for years and the translating work was split up so I don't know where things are that Tragic knows or LoneRanger. (More on them in my update post to come) As a result it's hard to give estimates as I've only got the translating experience at this point, but got none of the translating fixing experience so giving extremely vague estimates is hard in my mind and so I don't want to put ideas in heads that it's coming sooner rather than later. (I mean look at my update posts where I gave calculations to give estimate rather than my own thoughts until this last update where it's certain basically)

EDIT: I forgot to also mention that due to how the editor and the game is setup, until a playthrough occurs it's impossible to know if all the text makes sense as we see all the text that character says without any of the context of what the previous conversation or story related action was. (As a result have to guess work based off what the rough translation is, the sprite, if applicable the stage/zone it's occurring in) Which is part of why I'm expecting errors especially with the work I've just done since it is so many sprites with 0 stage/zone context that is certain so have to infer it from the translation and sprite.
Also the thing that I needed to do did not go well so expect my update to be a bit late due to the rolling impact it's had.

what changed?
last time i remember playing i was either at the end of finished content or i couldnt figure out where to go next
id dealt with the pirates and the fire zone would auto killed me if i survived in it too long
fought dune worms at some point?

someonebody42 I'm not sure what you're talking about.....? Are you asking why the translation was restarted? If so then the answer is simple, the editor version that myself and Loneranger used was not the one used by the Dev. As a result changes we made came with the risk that bugs could be introduced that we couldn't fix because they were be engine related. So when we found an version of the editor that matched what the Dev used we switched to that but had to reset. (We could look at the text done to transfer/refer back to it so it wasn't an complete reset) This post and the next few talked roughly about it though conversation did go to DM's afterwards.

Translation progress update for 8th: Alright so first off I'm going to warn again that I'm pre-writing most of this as well....it's pretty clear to me that I'll have nothing to really say about the sprites (Those last ones were mostly them talking about what equipment they had) and instead this is going to be more about what's next now that I've finally completed my task that was preventing the translation from going to the next stage.

So what's this actually going to be about? Well I got some news half of it is probably already known/guessed while the other half isn't and also I'm presuming a fair bit. It's not good news too so I'm going to put it into a spoiler so if you just want what the next stage is going to be then you can avoid it however you will miss context and possible answers most likely you'll gain.

Now then what's next?
  1. Well first I'm going to do an read through the sprite list that I just did...so yes I'm going through 483 sprites....again to just see if I spot any text I missed out on translating.
  2. Next will be getting all the translation data into one package since we all worked on separate files that need to be put together to make an draft translation that's playable.
  3. A play-through needs to be done to run through the story-line where I can't just ignore the text and mash buttons to skip but instead read it through and try to keep it all in mind and save often so if anything is out of place I can double check I didn't misread and so it's basically bookmarked.
  4. Take any mistakes or anything out of place from 3. and attempt to correct/fix it.
  5. Repeat 3 and 4 till it seems like the play-through is good text wise.
  6. Late April Fools (I blame Artix0 due to this post) Nah actually it will be then looking at what needs to be done to finally get the proper F95 thread made so this is no longer in the "Development" area of the site and instead the "Adult Games" so everyone else knows this has finally been translated.
Timeline for this all is hard to say since really it's just 5. that is the time hungry hippo or the time snacking mouse that can make it be a few weeks or a few months. So that's why I say don't hold hopes currently for anything sooner than 3 months time, however the updates I'll be providing will be done via an new post (if the old post is more than 24 hours old) and once an step has been completed. This means that it could be 6 posts till release or several but means I have just made the obligation that I'll be saying when I'm starting an new playthrough run rather than saying "I'm in the playthrough hellscape" and then go silient without updates. This way if I vanish again hopefully there's more...signs that it's occured and someone realizes....although no one sent me any DM's on ULMF nor F95 about this.

You may have also noticed that Loneranger69 has been extremely absent from any mention recently in terms of the work done. Which well the reason for that is they've vanished after completing their work as the work they did was mainly on the BMP images and moving over what they translated when I went silent for the first time on ULMF.

On a more serious note, I hope they're doing well wherever they are and that they disappeared out of choice!

I'm not sure where things got to at that stage, but if you need any more .bmp edits or if your playtesting reveals that existing ones need tweaking, I'd be more than happy to help out anytime as you push this beast over the finish line.

Excellent work from all three of you and good luck for this final hellscape victory lap!

Honestly the meandering, constantly changing, yet somehow consistent updates for this project have been a trip
This needs to be immortalized as much as the final translated game. It's been like reading a mini-story in itself with all of the hiccups, updates, and torch-passing.

Thanks as always to you three for your contributions and dedication to this project. Will probably feel nice to finally have this off your minds once its done

I'm not sure where things got to at that stage, but if you need any more .bmp edits or if your playtesting reveals that existing ones need tweaking, I'd be more than happy to help out anytime as you push this beast over the finish line.
I believe all the .bmp files in use have been edited as they all appeared to be in their own isolated folder so all good there I believe but will keep in mind thank you.

Maybe instead of the changelog spoiler on the game page it will just be all the update posts about the development of the game....breaks the post as a result of it's length. (my ULMF starting post is LONG)

Testing progress update for Step 1.1/6: So I'm not going to use dates anymore as it doesn't make sense in my mind to use them when I'm going to be going step by step....mostly since there's a loop clause. (It's why I'm doing 1.1 rather than just 1) Today I'm just putting this out as honestly I ain't done anything to work on this as my time has been engulfed by my RL issue still since I pushed it to the side as much as I could yesterday to get it done. (Owning pets as with most things have an drawback especially when they hate the stuff that helps them heal)
Maybe I'll do this for every step as kinda an prep/overview talk when starting an new step so I maybe also get an *break* day.....I'll take any suggestions/examples for how to better format the post so I can copy and paste while just redoing this talking bit for those that want to read what's happened while those that just want to know what's happened surmised can just read at the end of it.

I'm hoping in anycase for the checking to get roughly a 50 sprites done checking wise (not taking massive text heavy sprites into account like sprite 5) but I'll be happy with getting 25 done as well....it'll still get done faster than the doing the translation work itself since I'm just reading the text to see if I missed anything. However if I find I missed anything I wouldn't be surprised if I get 5 less sprites done at least as a result.
I have set the deadline to be 3 months since I threw that out there as like the earliest it could be done. (it was the first thing that came to mind and 2 months sounds just too short) But again I've no idea how long it could actually take. There's also a good chance during step 3 that stuff will be missed due to specific routing required for certain dialogue to be triggered.

PS I also just remembered with the last post that I slightly messed up with the Bandaid bit as ..... I said TragicSolitude did 200 ish files out of 300+ existing ones but I forgot when doing that to mention that when I did my intial translation attempt work 5-ish years ago I found several files to have no text at all in them. So I accidently might have under sold what TragicSolitude did since files without needing any changes don't get saved/modified so it's not possible to know if they were checked or not.....whoosp (Me dumb dumb and owes someone gum gum) but that's why I'm saying it now in an effort to correct that. (I'll also be editing the post to add that in)
