Kati the Possessed manual English translation update: 11 maps and endings remain.

In the middle of a text dense map, and from what I remember of the story there should be 2 more particularly text dense areas. Hopefully the technical stuff I'll have to do after won't give me too much trouble.

what technical stuff?
Mainly the wordwrapping. Game's readable/playable even if the text gets cut off by using the dialogue log, I know that because that's how I played through it with MTool, but I'd prefer people not have to do that.

Can't you just decrease the font size for that?

at this point i would honestly just wait until obasanssaga finishes his translation. it's going to be so much better. with the machine translation you can mostly only guess what the characters are trying to say.

Yeah but DazedAnon's MTLs are different, he uses GPT to translate which takes in previous events as context. I also couldn't find Dazed mentioning anywhere that he translated this game, so I was just informing obasanssaga if it could be of any use to him (e.g. OCRd pictures). Otherwise obviously manual translation will always be loads better lol.

I don't think that's completed. If you check his discord, he started on the MTL but didn't continue it because of the game's encryption on their files.

Was busy IRL unfortunately, but should be able to pick up the pace again for now.

I generally appreciate DazedAnon, actually, but yeah in this case their MTL seems incomplete, and doesn't align well with my methods and goals. Also I think there's pretty much no images to translate in this game.

As for how to solve the text getting cut off, it could be a simple matter of font size, but we'll see. This is a complete amateur's first project so I'd have to fiddle around.

Yeah I asked that for wordwrapping cuz I saw Shisaye doing that in some of his games and in Nanami & Marina, though it sometimes fails if the game is launched with locale emulator. Weird shit.

All maps are done, 1/3 of the endings are done. The other 2 endings I could finish in hours.

But for the life of me I can't figure out how to go about word wrapping. I tried installing the YEP_Messagecore plugin and it has a lot of unintended effects that I'm not sure how to control. Using its word wrap breaks the text, but even when it's off, the message boxes become huge, which is okay for cutscenes, but causes the boxes and their text to get cut off when they appear when you speak to characters. Full CG events also can't show more than 1 line at a time. Reducing the default width of the box seemed to work until I realized it cuts off text from full CG events. Decreasing line height also somehow ended up shrinking the text box and making things even less legible.

Font size can't be changed. I tried it in every plugin that has it and it doesn't work for the English, it only affects the Japanese that remains in the pop-up menu when you try to exit game and album. I can change the font to Verdana though, hah.

Anyway I spent about 3~4 hours trying to trial and error this shit and pouring through all the js files but I'm kind of defeated. I was hoping this part would be easy so I could finish the translation AND quickly proofread/edit the parts I translated the earliest because I know they're kinda ass. Nope, I think I'm gonna need someone else for this. If there's anyone who's an expert or knows an expert I would appreciate some assistance.

But regardless of what happens with wordwrap I'm just going to share the unproofread and potentially buggy translation up once I'm done with the endings. That should be like in 16 hours from now. I don't know much about making threads for games but I would prefer one to be not made until I'm somewhat satisfied with the quality of this translation after I make further edits.

You can create a thread in Translation, and just leave a bolded message above the download that it's not ready for general release. Generally the mods respect that. You can also just leave a link to your translation here while you bug test it.

I'm not sure how you tried to change the font, but it should be very easy. Download the fonts.7z file I have attached here and go to the game directory, then www>data>fonts and drop the files in it. The font is a pretty good, condensed English font that makes word wrapping less necessary.

Created a thread. Please use it for discussion regarding my translation going forward.

But here it is as well. Not word wrapped, barely proofread and playtested, but it's done. Game needs to be unpacked for the patch, your locale should be in Japanese.

The font change works, but now I feel like I'm having the Goldilocks problem, in that the text is too small for the boxes and I don't like how it looks. Also, it messes up the center alignment when you're making decisions for some reason? Font size still isn't adjustable from the plugins. But the right font might solve this issue.

But I appreciate the help, and look forward to whatever insight you might have when you look at my patch.
