Having an odd error - after 12 deaths on the first day (Monday), at some point after I go down to the village, I am no longer able to save the game? Clicking 'Save Game' just says 'ERROR' instead of 'Game saved!'. Has anyone else had this?

Hmm, I'll investigate this, sounds like a low level engine error. The save function is premade in Twine

lol the mysterious language in the journal is just the lyrics to the sound of music:

Teemee teela dohlasomee la laladohtee: Mee laladohtee. Ray teesosotee dohlasomee la mee teelaso; sorayfa mee ray laladohtee mee fasolala. Dd sofa ray meemeelateetee mee fasotee, lasorayfa, tee meefafa ray teesosotee dohlasomee la soraytee mee sosotee ray meeteetee dohsotee tee meesoraysofa mee ray meeso teesosotee tee dohmeetee so 'mee' solalatee tee mee fasotee (teedoh); teesofa so dohfa lalatee tee meeteetee faladoh teesosotee. Soteemee ray dohlasomee meetee mee solalasotee so raysotee solalatee teesosotee, la tee solala mee sofa sotee!

meetee tee mee meemee ray teefa mee ray dohlasomee, tee doh so Lateeso fasoso teetee mee fasolala tee meesoraysofa. Ray lameetee so sotee sosolatee teela..

All the syllables are from "Do-Re-Mi"

Has anyone found an alternative way to save this game? I cannot save at all. If I hit "save" some objects appear in something called "localStorage" in my FireFox, but if I close and reopen the browser, they are gone. It's not in cookies or responds to cookie settings. I was intrigued by the beginning of the game but without an actual save this is not playable for me. I have similar situation with other twine games in that the regular saves disappear, but most games usually provide a save to file or save to string option, but not here...

This sounds very strange and indeed is related to the fundamental Twine functions rather than Transylvania specifically. Have you tried opening it in a different browser? Normally the saves are cookie based and persist between sessions.

If you're still having issues drop me a message, I'll send you the Patreon version which has a quick navigation menu that can shoot you to a forward point in the story.

Thanks, Vincent. I do not really use other browsers. I just tried MS Edge that I have here and it did not display anything at all. As I said I always have to use save to file or save to string in other twine games. I played with cookie settings and that did not do anything, besides the saved data appears in the Local Storage rather than cookies in the Firefox storage inspector, which are separate entities somehow (see attached). Anyway, I think I'll give up on this for now.

PS Apparently localStorage is HTML5 equivalent of cookies:

and it looks like in Firefox localStorage follows cookie privacy settings:
so it should work if the cookie settings are permissive, which I tried...

Edit: for anyone else with problem you can output the localStorage into string in development console with this:

JSON.stringify(window.localStorage)

save the text for later and next time recover with:

tmp=JSON.parse(saved text heer);
for (var key in tmp) window.localStorage[key]=tmp[key];

you need to click on any link on the page for the "load game" to show up.

I'm sorry to hear that happened. You might be happy to hear that the new patch features a confirmation prompt when overriding an existing save!

P.S. For any people just discovering Transylvania - you can find more info / presentation of the game here:

Unless you make the female protag 12y old a female beginning would mean you'd start playing as a non-virgin whore, so whats the point.
where do you know mc guy is not a non-virgin whore?

I'm impressed. Art was nice and the writing is good which is also at a decent length and doesn't overstay its welcome. The whole temporal theme was a nice twist that leads to some very interesting scenarios like experiencing the game again in sort of way. Like a New Game+ but with new content.

Really looking forward to new content.

Agreed; it seems I wasted my time for nothing...Too bad I love this theme.
Hey there, main dev here.

While I am keeping an eye on this thread, it was originally not posted by me and I have no control over the front post and the overall presentation. I realize this is not everyone's cup of tea, and it would be for the better if the presentation cover reflects the content as much as possible.

As I can see you are a much more seasoned user of F95 than I am, do not hesitate to let me know if there's anything that can be done to improve visibility.

On my end, for anyone else that wants more information and for any mods reading, this link contains a detailed presentation of the main themes of the game:

Hi there, just to carify a bit because my comment may be interpretated as an insult to your game..But the truth is quite the opposite, what irritated me the most about it is the fact that the writing, the gameplay and almost everything were almost perfectly crafted and excuted, but then at that moment when my MC suddenly transformed into a female I was hit by a wall, my mind does not tolerate this type of fantasy it's just not for me, so all the time I spent reading and getting excited to find out about what happens next was obliteretaed in a single moment. The tags a re there true but they are not reflective of it, because there are many titles that include this element of surprise but it tends to be optional which is not the case here. If I were to tag this game accurately I would give it a "forced non optional gender bender" tag, that way it will only attract the people that have interest in this, a shame though because you could've widened your audience by quite a bit if you made two paths; one for gender bending the other for people who prefer to stay male and maybe become an Incubus or something instead.

Visually speaking it's not bad, you should feel proud of your work it's good but it's definitely not for everyone.

Oh man, this is really cool.
I'm always down for more gothic-fiction/horror themed games, and this one seems to be brilliantly crafted.

LOVED the choice of overall black and white for the illustrations (with some accents of red, green and gold sprinkled here and there, from what I've noticed so far), it really emphasizes the mood of it all and reminds me of a bygone era of the great classic horror films.
Also, those are some sick looking drawings, what an amazingly talented artist you got there.

I haven't played the game in its entirety yet but I'm really liking the characters and the writing so far.
Some of the events are really macabre which is awesome.

If I had to point a negative it would be the lack of any kind of ambience sfx (I'm gonna be honest, I'm not sure if this is even possible to implement at all in a HTML game like this one), but this is still a really minimal issue in my opinion - I just open some YouTube tabs with a good selection of appropriate ambience sounds for each location/scene and I'm set. xD

You guys truly deserve to be commended, this is an absolutely great work and I cannot wait to see what else you got in store for us in the future!

P.S. - Question: Can we download and install newer updates and then safely continue on from an old save and be just fine or are saves from previous versions of the game incompatible?
