I do have a clear idea about how the story goes here. While it is a harem game, the route it takes isn't as 'easy' as most others. Most tags like prostitution are avoidable.

My best guess is that they do it to add some depth to the character, and make their behaviour more believable. That same sense of realism can't be achieved by other, lighter events.

It's entirely possible to do heavy stuff without things getting sexual...^^ With adult VN, there is sometimes some kind of "porn logic" that is applied turning a dark past into blackmail/rape in order to add more adult content. I think it's a little over the top to state those are needed to add more depth to a story or characters. I mean, they can do the trick obviously but so can a lot of other traumatic events that we can face in life.

You should just tell your story the way you see fit and stick to your guns but please don't come up with weird excuses when you're defending your vision Especially since the dark past comes with lots of animations! If it was only for drama/character's depth purposes, it would have been more tasteful with a few still renders (if the shock value is important to you) when her past comes up (but good writing and mise-en-scène without going graphically into the "gory" details can also do the trick ^^). Here, you did go for the home run so it kinda becomes more gratuitous and pleasing for those who are into fetishes a little more "risque"

It's your game but I'm pretty sure it's skippable instead of avoidable in the F95's jargon This is something that has happened in the past so nothing we can do to prevent it and please don't mind those who ask to make it avoidable, it wouldn't make any sense unless the MC has some kind of godly power that allows him to change the past...^^ I'm definitely not a fan of this kind of content and would prefer a gentler/more subtle touch to depict a gruesome past but I'd be more bothered if Claire's persona changes if you know about her past or not (you can look at the sex tape or not but it did happen so she should bare the scar so to speak).

And speaking of the difference between avoidable and skippable, could you mention in your current/planned tags if those are avoidable or skippable in a parenthesis or something? People are gonna "jump at your throat" a lot less on the subject if things are transparent and accessible in the first post Plus, it might do you good on the Patreon side since people can get apprehensive instead of hopeful while waiting for the next updates when they don't know if you're gonna force them into fetishes they do not like.

Anyways I hope you consider to add 'ntr' tag or at least a warning in the op soon so other people who hates ntr won't be dissapointed when they reach that part of the game. Because for many people this kind of scene is a ntr content no matter if it happened on past or not. For me I went from 'I should support this guy on patreon' to ' should I put this game on ignore list' after I see that scene. I still very much like the game and if this 'your love interest getting fucked by other dudes regardless of your choices but you don't have to watch it' shit won't continue and the game won't go into ntr-sharing-cuckold path I will try to give it one more chance. But seriously, consider narrowing your idea for the game a bit. Not even due to the fact that some people won't like certain parts, but because 10 partial focuses can't beat 1 thorough, complete one. If my days as a software developer taught me anything, its that planning tons of features increased project time exponentially. And more often than not, it led to missed deadlines or cancellations.

That's kind of unfair, especially since Chloe hasn't been flirted with or even engaged all that much. And there was the warning prompt in-game before viewing the scene, along with the option to skip it. Regardless, character development often involves tragedy in the past that has left scars, and the potential for a redemptive, healing arc is clear.
