Love this post (no homo).Feels like the opposite to me - NTR fans have repeatedly gone into several harem game threads I follow and posted over and over that the game should have NTR (even after the dev has replied clearly that NTR will not be a part of their game). So over time harerm fans have gotten quicker to proactively shut that down as a reaction to that trolling. (Maybe harem fans go into NTR game threads and do the same thing...but I doubt it because most harem game fans don't want any part of NTR games.)
In fairness both sides probably have immature jerky posters that the decent folks on both sides have no control over, so we probably all just have to suffer.
To your point that NTR games can have harems I completely agree because NTR fans are who those games are made for. The opposite does not work, though, because harem games are made for harem fans specifically, and most harem fans are not into NTR and don't want to see it in games specifically made for harem fans.

harem fans going into ntr threads to complain about ntr is just as bad as ntr fans going into harem threads to say ntr should be added. if you have nothing to say except an attempt to derail the thread with offtopic complaints, that's bad no matter what the topic. the reason each side feels it's one-sided is because most harem fans don't go into ntr threads to see the complaints and vice versa.
as for "gatekeeping the harem tag", that's a load of crap. no one says you can't make a game with both tags, what people say is that adding ntr to a harem game almost universally makes the game fail. this has been seen countless times, and the reason for it is as jI11jaCksjAkk said: harem fans don't like ntr (as a general rule). do ntr fans like harem? sure, often they do; as far as i know, there'd be nothing wrong with an ntr game where you gather a whole harem of girls that cheat on you, that'd probably be pretty popular if it was done well. the reverse, a game for harem fans where you have a whole harem of girls who start cheating on you with no warning after eight months of development to get invested in them, has been tried and never does well. all that accomplishes is making the existing fans hate the cheating characters and drop the game.
so no, we're not saying "don't make a game with both harem and ntr." we're saying "don't add ntr to a harem game, or indeed to any game that hasn't been focused on ntr from the start, unless you want to see your playerbase drop the game and stop supporting you."

Good take and i agree, I try to be respectful towards others on the site but i am not lying when i say not harem fans in general but some groups have been attackings ntr/nts games, games which i dont mind and i do enjoy also, i agree devs shouldnt add ntr in a harem game but its not ntr these folks have problem with lesbian and bi content too which i find hilarious so i would say they self insert a little too hard for their own good.
Would not generalize like this. I started as a Harem-Fan, but I also enjoy NTR-games. Basically everything which corrupts a woman is nice, but I also dont really insert myself in any games. Like, I dont feel that it is my Harem or I am the one being cheated on, it is more like I am the observer.
And I think it would be better if people would just be more open-minded and NTR-Fans dont hate Harem-Fans because they enjoy Harem and vice-versa.
However, I also think that NTR should not be shoehorned into a Harem game and I think it is equally silly to have a Love-Route in an NTR-game (unless this route is without any sex, like Scars of Summer did). But if a Dev decides that both should be in a game, this can work, as long as both routes are avoidable and it is clear what to do to trigger a certain route.
But True Husband is past this and it would not really make sense to make any of the Characters cheat on MC, especially because it is shown how devoted they are to him.

I'm hoping that's the case. Don't get me wrong, I do regularly sub on subscribestar, but I pick and choose. That is way too much for what you get. Plenty of free adult comic sites online.

NTR is gender neutral and has 3 meanings, all harems are NTR except the female LI are the ones where the MC is cheating not the gf or wife. well, since you're so concerned about the exact meaning of the term, you might want to realize that NTR is netorare specifically; it does not include netorase (NTS) or netori. those are different, but related, fetishes. NTR is specifically without consent of the one being cucked, whereas NTS is with such consent. saying they're the same is like saying picking up chicks at the bar is the same as spiking their drinks.
the difference between NTR and netori, on the other hand, is a difference of perspective; saying they're the same is like saying that being a dom is the same as being a sub. you can say they're both domination, but they're very different interests and most people aren't going to be into both.

personally, i would rather that all romantic/sexual relationships were optional, because i hate being forced into characters/fetishes that i can't stand, but i understand that's not always feasible in the stories devs want to tell.
