this game falls into the trap of making it so you FAIL every skill check in the game at the start by making the requirements way too high. i invested into strength and mind yet i failed almost every skill check. i invested 6 in mind and split the rest between steel and the... other one? why not have the skill checks gradually increase as you progress further? or provide alternate checks that use a skill you HAVE invested in?

and there's no dialogue skip... like come on man!
Oh damn... You're right, that it does totally look as if you failed right from the gate. Damn. Need to change the presentation of those early checks. At least if you're talking about the very first intro skill checks, they're there just to round out the background. Whether the main character was into violence, or not, or if they're pretty, or were in a leadership position, etc... I just used skill check as a shortcut for that, but didn't really consider that it will show as "skill failed" right from the start.

The rest of the checks failing all the time... The issue I have, is that skills affect dialogue and what the character sees or how they react. If I did not tell you that "composure failed" most players would probably not think that skills even mattered during dialogue. I am not sure if this is the best approach, but I wanted to make it clear that different skills give you different responses during dialogue.

So that's why you get 'failed x' messages, to tell you that 'this line of dialogue would have been different if you had a higher skill'. It's not a 'failure' strictly speaking, since nothing was (probably) irrevocably lost, but not sure how else to label it? Like I said, the issue is if I don't tell the average player this, they most likely won't think the stats affect dialogue at all outside of choices, when they're actually fundamentally part of the narrative.

If anyone got better ideas on how to make it clear that the stats influence even the "prose", I'm all ears. Would it work better if it just read "Mind" in green for 'success', or in red for 'failure'? Then it would not say "failed", which strictly speaking is not necessarily what is happening, just that the skill/attribute in question mattered for that particular line of dialogue.

Also, on the score: You can get 6 in every skill when starting the game. So having 6 in anything is basically the average. I won't penalize it, but I definitely won't reward it either.

That's why I reward those with 7 or more in one attribute/skill with dialogue lines that show only if they have a high enough stat. They made a sacrifice in some other attribute to get it that high. For example, if Encyclopedia is below 7, the main character does not know about Lovecraft. But if it is at least 7, he will goggle at Donaciana telling him with a straight face about King in Yellow (okay, that's Chambers, not Lovecraft, but you get the idea).

As for the skip dialogue... well, it was not a big priority, since things were working so far and there is not THAT much content yet. But I just added it to the next version I am working on (0.0.8) because of your feedback.

i dont know use a word like outmaneuvered for success and overreached or hindered or outmatched for something more tame then failure?

Pros:
  • amazing art style
  • unique adaption of an isekai
  • Concept of every interaction based of various stats.

Cons:
  • reworking the stats system, as most dialogues are skill locked
  • No sex, only orc tits
  • No Dialogue rollback
  • no saves in between episodes
  • clusterfuck of stats, can be too complex

Also, just to remind everyone, there's no hold to skip dialogue until 0.0.8. That said, there's not that much content to skip -- since there's still a lot of technical stuff to be done before adding content gets the priority. However, you can skip with mouse/spacebar combo fairly quickly even in these older versions.

Sorry to hear that, what are the symptoms? Are you on Linux or Windows? It won't run on older Linux versions because Spine2D plugin requires a fairly modern version.

If it runs slow, then the issue is that I decided to make the game on 4K art, and there's just no way of getting around the fact that this will slow down things. If you've got a dedicated video card, it should still run, though.

Well... that's a new one. Linux or Windows? If it's Linux, it might be because of Spine2D was compiled on GLIBC_2.38 (I think it was 38) so it won't run on older Linux distros. For example, it won't run on Linux Mint 21, but it will run in Mint 22.

If Windows... that is a new one. Generally people can at least start it. But it is not a flash program, so it will require video card of some kind. What's your system like?

I play most games on the f5zone site on my poor notebook PC which the hardware is very old and no video card,the System is WIN 10.They all run OK.I think this game need more video RAMS,so when i loading the game ,it crashes immediately .I want to know what is the lowest hardware requirements?

My poor notebook PC has only 8G RAMs and i7 5600U with GPU on CHIP .I lauched this game and it reported that godot engine stopped woking immediately.I havent play big 3D games for long time and sold the desktop PC with high performance graphics card, so i cannt try this game on other PC to find out why this game crashed on my notebook .Where is the error log file?

It's still just a tech demo, so the game is nowhere finished enough to be certain. But my GUESS at minimum requirements is:
  • Windows 10 64-bit
  • Intel i5-4460 or AMD FX-8350
  • NVIDIA GTX 960 / AMD RX 460
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 1080p Display
I am pretty sure you can run this with a 2GB GPU, but until someone tests it with one, I can't be certain.

You can try it, but I would not try until 0.0.9, as any version before that will be identical in its requirements. In 0.0.9, I split the texture atlas for Spine2D to two smaller files and do a few more optimizations, so there is a chance it will run. But very small chance, I suspect this game is not really for anyone without either a dedicated GPU or a fairly modern CPU.

The difference between my game and a regular 3D game, is that my game is essentially always using 4K textures, no matter what. Usually 3D games have multiple texture sizes enabled, so that 3D game probably uses a lot less texture memory than my game. I have a lot of images, and they're all 4K size.

Edit: Also, I am using Godot 4.4, so that means if your Intergrated GPU or separate GPU does NOT support Vulkan 1.1 or has buggy drivers... it will NOT run. Otherwise the game uses VERY little resources, but it does require a fairly modern computer (just for the Vulkan support).

it breaks SO MANY TIMES. literally two minutes. just click the mouse to advance the text and BAM! start all over again. the inability to save at any time makes crashes an even more enjoyable part of the gameplay. super finished project.
