Is the lockpicking percentage just there for shits and giggles? Loaded a save and tried a success chance 60% lock, must've been eight times. Nada. Is it just hard wired to fail if you fail once, despite loads, until you reset by resting or something?
I feel like it’s that “fear and hunger” chest logic for the lockpicking RNG. The outcome is decided before you even get to the lock.

We’d need someone to look into the code to confirm that though.
I think its picking a predetermined random number upon startup of the game so that you can't save scum it. If you do different locks before hand tho it should change the outcome. The random # has to be less than whatever the success rate it. So:

90% Success Rate Chest:
  • Random numbers 0-90 → SUCCESS ✓
  • Random numbers 91-100 → FAIL ✗
30% Success Rate Chest:
  • Random numbers 0-30 → SUCCESS ✓
  • Random numbers 31-100 → FAIL ✗
Scenario 1 (Same outcome):
  1. Save game (next random number in queue is, say, #42)
  2. Pick lock 1 → Uses random #42 → Fails
  3. Reload
  4. Pick lock 1 → Uses random #42 again → Fails again
Scenario 2 (Different outcome):
  1. Save game (next random number is #42)
  2. Pick lock 2 → Uses random #42 (outcome doesn't matter)
  3. Pick lock 1 → Uses random #43 → Might succeed!
  4. Reload save
  5. Pick lock 2 → Uses random #42 again
  6. Pick lock 1 → Uses random #43 again → Same result as step 3

All of these should change the outcome/random #:
  • Picking a different lock first
  • Getting into a battle.
  • Any other RNG check (trap evasion, critical hits, etc.)

There’s a rpgmaker mz cheat menu plugin that is fairly easy to install and works on the game. Just gotta look it up on google. Mtool has cheats too, but I don’t know if you can use mtool only for the cheat features

I am having some difficulties getting the installation to work due to the lack of a WWW file for the game, and the patcher / manual patch not working. I know you arent a mod dev but any tips?

So for a game with this engine you should be able to copy what was in the www folder into the base game directory, the folder with the game’s exe, and it should work.

It probably uses a seeded RNG, which makes it pseudo random with predetermined outcomes if you did the same events in order, doing certain things will reroll/advance the seed.
