Every time I read the MC say/think "hee hee" causes me mental distress.

Yeah, hee hee is more young (underage) girls or bimboish young women. Gay men usually don't say "hee hee" either.
The proper way to write this is in this sense is *giggles* or *laughs* or some other third person present verb in asterisks. Even 'haha' would do.
